Purpose Statement:  As an Electrical Design Engineer at Plexus Engineering Solutions (Penang Design Center), you will design and develop Power Distribution Unit for products across a wide range of industries. This role collaborates with talented  mechanical, quality, manufacturing and test engineers throughout all phases of the product development life cycle - from idea and conceptualization; through requirements, design, and development; to manufacturing transition and into the market.

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Architect and design electrical systems for industrial and Semi Cap market sectors
  • Create and develop detailed schematic, cable routing diagram & 3D models of electrical panel designs leveraging tools such as AutoCAD
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive Bills of Material (BOM) for each project, detailing component specifications and quantities required for production
  • Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and technical requirements specific to electrical panel manufacturing
  • Develop prototypes and conduct rigorous testing to validate product designs meet performance requirements, quality, and cost goals.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills in electrical system debugging/troubleshooting of typical issues encountered within the product development cycle
  • Experience with Arc Flash and electrical safety calculations, safety calculations, safety protocols, and implementation of product safety plans
  • Coordinate overcurrent protection equipment such as breakers and fuses within a power distribution system
  • Size and specify conductors within power equipment in alignment with electrical standards and best practices
  • Ability to use common tools and techniques to assemble an electrical panel or provide guidance for the assembly of an electrical panel.

Education/Experience Qualifications:

  • Masters/Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering is required. Consideration will be given to candidates with other degrees that have E&E overlap – (e.g. Electronics /Mechanical / Industrial Design / Mechatronics Engineering etc.) as long as strong experience/ background in electrical design can be demonstrated.
  • Well versed with engineering calculations with respect to power consumption, current capacity / loading, shielding related to instruments, machinery and automation systems.
  • Industry experience requirements vary for the position applied depending on the level applied for.
  • Experience in control system, safety circuit and PLC
  • Knowledge on electrical standards such as UL 508a, NFPA 70, NFPA 79, SEMI S2, SEMI S23
  • Knowledge of good EMC design practices for board/system level designs as well as EMC test and troubleshooting experience.
  • For Staff Level 7+ years of experience is required
