This Opportunity
We have an immediate opportunity for a Substation Physical Electrical Engineer for our Chicago, IL Office. You will provide delivery of high voltage electrical substation designs for our projects. The following locations will also be considered: Birmingham, AL, Boston, MA, Charlotte, NC, Atlanta, GA, and Orlando, FL.
The Substation Physical Electrical Engineer will work under the leadership of the Supervising Engineer along with a multi-discipline team to design efficient and reliable high voltage substations. In this role you will coordinate your design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion. You will also assist the Estimating Team in preparation of estimates and project proposals.
Your Impact
This position is accountable to provide the design activities in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all WSP’s policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control. Specific duties include:
• Work under mentorship and guidance of the Supervising Engineer.
• Prepare substation plan and profile view, grounding, lightning protection, lighting, cable trench, cable trays, conduit layout and detail installation drawings.
• Have knowledge of related disciplines/fields of engineering. Be comfortable operating within a multi-discipline design team.
• Prepare studies and design calculations such as load flow, short circuit, Arc Flash, grounding, TOV, EMF, transformer sizing, cable sizing etc. using software including WinIGS, ETAP, SKM, CDEGS, CYMCAP. Study reports must be clear and well written.
• Provide percent complete as well as Estimated Time to Completion when requested by project managers or lead engineers.
• Provide input into improvement ideas during project execution and close-out.
• Prepare technical specifications for the electrical equipment, evaluate proposals from vendors, and review vendor drawings.
• Possess working knowledge of design software including AutoCAD and MicroStation. May be required to prepare or revise design drawings.
• Delivery of accurate and thorough designs that will meet industry standards and specifications, and meet good engineering practice with excellent constructability.
• Resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
• Maintaining complete project documentation with respect to substation design and construction, including all completion packages, as-built requirements and return data information.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
• Employment authorization to work in the United States immediately
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 3+ years of working experience in high-voltage substation design for renewable developers and electrical utility clients. The ideal candidate will have experience working in consulting firms.
• Registered as a PE or meet eligibility criteria
• Possess exceptional communication skills (client relations, project team communications, and proposal and report development)
• Candidate must undergo pre-employment drug screening and a criminal background investigation.
• Position located at client offices with travel to the site on occasion

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $73,100 - $125,400
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
