Overview

InLine Engineers, A Gray Company, is currently looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer I. InLine has been providing engineering and project management services for the development and execution of capital projects relating to processing, packaging, and facility improvements in the food and beverage industry since 1996.

Position Description

The Senior Electrical Engineer I independently executes project tasks and further develops electrical engineering capabilities related to food and beverage processing design for the development and execution of capital projects, with little to no need for direction and guidance of more senior engineers and project managers. Possesses food industry knowledge that is aligned directly with the engineering services that InLine offers. Thorough understanding of electrical principles applicable to food and beverage manufacturing. Demonstrates the capability of taking on a technical lead electrical role on one or more projects of almost any size. The Senior Electrical Engineer I demonstrates early stages of either being able to “influence” others and/or “direct” others for attainment of organizational engineering outputs. This is a salaried, exempt position.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be a reliable team player that builds positive relationships with peers, project teams, suppliers, and the customer. Comfortable in sharing their perspective.
  • Recognized as a go-to team member for technical deliverables. Possesses a technical depth of knowledge along with applying more complex concepts and techniques of electrical systems for a wide range of food and beverage processing applications.
  • Support the project team, electrical engineering team, and the company by completing the defined scope of work with excellence and timeliness to the satisfaction of the customer.
  • With minimal support of others, is capable of serving as a technical lead on efforts of all sizes and complexity. Fully capable of developing documentation or strategies prior to finalizing deliverables. Requests input as needed.
  • Superior understanding of project workflow and methods for determining needs and solutions for batch and/or continuous processing systems. This includes developing specifications, assisting with estimation, project justification/ feasibility, budget, schedule, design, implementation, procurement, installation, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and ensuring that facilities and equipment comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Displays a good understanding in certain food/ beverage processes and technologies, and a deep understanding of electrical requirements, power distribution and automation and controls applications in the industry.
  • Active participation in continuous improvement of “Engineering Quality” for all deliverables.
  • Displays a solid ability to pick up processes/ procedures/ best practices via training, education, knowledge share groups (E3), conferences, and/or internal project involvement. Leads and influences direction on E3 groups.
  • Can assume a lead role in site support and commissioning, including planning and facilitation.
  • Relied upon to utilize experience and inform on budget and timeline project impacts as well as interdependencies.
  • Able to work on multiple complex projects at the same time.
  • Regularly plan their owns tasks.
  • Checks work completed by lower-level resources.
  • Can generate an entire estimate, scope of work, and proposal within their area of expertise. Can support and sometimes lead a sales call or site visit with a sales lead, Project Manager, Program Manager, and/or customer liaison. Able to significantly contribute to business development efforts and starting to develop own network for business generation. Can help own a customer relationship.
  • Participate in peer reviews.

Possesses experience in tasks associated with the work, such as:

  • Intimate knowledge of electrical designs, utility needs, one-line diagrams, I/O lists, defining power source and power runs.
  • Prepare equipment lists and data sheets, block flow diagrams, process flow diagrams and P&ID’s as needed.
  • Perform detailed electrical design calculations and simulations.
  • Develop energy balances.
  • Generate equipment specifications.
  • Develop written sequence of operation narratives for equipment, systems, and process controls.
  • Assist in creation and review of layout drawings.
  • Leads, prepares and conducts final reviews for vendor and contractor bid and construction packages for project electrical equipment, components, and installations. Lead or assist with bid analyses.
  • Constantly grow food and beverage general industry knowledge- hygienic design, food safety, and good manufacturing practices (GMP), etc.
  • Constantly grow food and beverage industry knowledge- key OEMs, etc.
  • Visit customer sites for data acquisition, to lead or perform audits and surveys of the customers facilities and equipment, progress meetings, and to oversee/ perform installation and startup as needed.
  • Generate requirements for equipment performance and participate in vendor factory acceptance tests (FATs), reviews, and trials.

Qualifications

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Ability to perform in a highly collaborative, cohesive team environment, with InLine, other teams in the Gray family of companies, or other external partner companies.
  • Proven success with prior duties of an Electrical Engineer II.
  • Strong desire and aptitude to interact and build relationships with customers.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in electrical engineering. Related degrees from an accredited curriculum will also be considered.
  • Significant experience in detailed electrical design related to food and beverage processing lines.
  • Attentiveness to detail, follow-up procedures, and documentation of action. Proficient in time management and personal organization.
  • Ideally, has prior experience specifically in providing engineering services for food and beverage manufacturing production.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid experience with MS Outlook, MS Project, MS Excel and MS Word.
  • AutoCAD experience is a plus.
  • Technical writing experience and skills (e.g., technical specifications, scope of work documents).
  • Experience in aspects of development and execution of capital projects.
  • Expected to have PE license.
  • Solid understanding of automation control systems (PLC, HMI, VFD’s, etc.) is preferred.
  • Know the industry best practices for power, controls and safety.
  • Ability to evaluate existing electrical operations and suggest and drive solutions that provide ROI and improve productivity.
  • Travel is required. Travel requirements vary depending on assigned projects. InLine Engineers strives to distribute the project workload fairly and works with each team member to achieve a satisfactory work-life balance.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
