POSITION PURPOSE

Responsible for the overall site electrical engineering function, as well as the electrical reliability, process control and electrical condition monitoring tasks at the Pinto Valley Mine Site. The senior electrical engineer also has a lead role in supporting field equipment troubleshooting of electrical issues, as well as maintaining and updating safety protocols regarding interactions with electrical equipment. This position works closely with the electrical maintenance, operations and assets and engineering teams to optimize maintenance strategies, maintenance procedures, safety protocols, and process control strategies.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Balance of field (40%) and office work (60%). Field work is performed in different areas, equipment and instruments at the Pinto Valley Mine Site

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

As an employee of the Capstone Copper Assets & Engineering Department your key responsibilities are aligned with the Capstone Copper Asset Management Framework (AMF) Elements. You will be required to develop a clear understanding of the Capstone Copper AMF Standards relevant to your role and ensure they are applied within your area of responsibility. 

The responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to the following:

  • Follow safe work procedures and act safely while working in compliance with all MSHA safety guidelines and Pinto Valley Mine policies and procedures
  • Participate in proactive activities to reduce the probability and mitigate consequences of potential safety incidents to make Pinto Valley Mine a safe place to work
  • Centralize and optimize key safety procedures and protocols related to the area of expertise such as lock-out tag-out, grounding, HV switching, etc
  1. Electrical Reliability Engineering ……………………….………………….…..…… (30%)
  • Identify and manage mitigation actions for business risks related to electrical equipment
  • Develop and implement equipment electrical maintenance strategies by supporting and participating in the maintenance strategies workshops
  • Develop Bill of Materials (BOM) for proactive electrical maintenance tasks that require parts
  • Lead the process to identify and mitigate business risks due to obsolete electrical equipment
  • Lead big impact or complex event analysis (RCA) for defect elimination in electrical equipment
  • Monitor electrical equipment performance and identify improvement opportunities within area of expertise
  1. Electrical Maintenance Engineering ……………………………………….…...…… (20%)
  • Ensure electrical equipment studies are kept up to date such as power studies, network analysis, harmonics analysis, etc
  • Conduct QA/QC activities during and after electrical maintenance of critical assets
  • Represent the electrical discipline in project engineering coordination and analysis
  • Facilitate development of electrical maintenance procedures of critical and repetitive electrical maintenance tasks
  • Lead electrical troubleshooting efforts to resolve complex breakdowns and fault findings
  • Support electrical team in managing and resolving issues related to high voltage maintenance activities

  • Lead and supervise the team of process control specialists
  • Support, optimize and manage the development of control strategies, equipment interlocks, PLC logics and configurations, etc
  • Lead establishment of a process to maintain and update documentation regarding control strategies
  • Develop and maintain an effective alarm management system to prioritize corrective actions
  • Lead control room operators training, monitor their performance, log their feedback and resolve requests regarding control systems
  • Monitor and control condition of software and hardware for process control and coordinate with IT team the resolution of issues

  • Centralize and monitor execution of electrical equipment maintenance required or monitored by government entities
  • Monitor compliance of calibration of electrical equipment and tooling, as well as prepare and maintain records for insurance purposes

  • Develop and provide guidance regarding condition monitoring techniques for electrical equipment (partial discharge, transformer oil analysis, harmonics analysis, health monitoring, thermography for power lines, etc)

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

(Required, Preferred)

·  Bachelor’s degree in engineering or diploma in related field

 

PREFERRED

·  Electrical or electronics engineering degree

YEARS OF RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:

(Required, Preferred)

·  5 years in electrical engineering or maintenance in a mining operational facility

 

PREFERRED

·  8+ years in electrical engineering or maintenance in a mining operational facility

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES (KSA):

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Understanding of safety protocols and practices to ensure site personnel electrical safety at the processing plant and open pit mine
  • Mining site electrical engineering or maintenance experience highly regarded
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering, power systems, control systems, PLC configurations, database management, and safety protocols
  • Experience and knowledge of electrical codes and industry standards (NEC, NFPA, ISA, IEC, etc)
  • Experience in high voltage and power system studies
  • Familiarity with industrial automation systems, SCADA, and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) design
  • Experience with mining equipment such as crushers, conveyors, ball mills, centrifugal pumps, flotation cells, filter plants, in processing plants or trucks, loaders, excavators, dozers, graders, etc in mobile equipment
  • Able to speak, comprehend, and write English
