Description

Coherent Aerospace & Defense, Emerging Products & Technologies Business Unit is seeking an electrical engineering technician to contribute to the development of advanced laser systems for defense applications. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Supports development of new PCBA designs by setting up test stations and supporting circuit debugging.

Implements repairs/design changes to PCBAs based on test results.

Builds, tests, and installs wire cable assemblies.

Troubleshoots electrical assemblies using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, arbitrary waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, and RF signal generators.

Performs failure analysis of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs).

Supports subsystem integration activities by assembling components and/or assemblies.

Writes test procedures and maintain test records. 

Communicates test results for PCBA and system-level testing.

Works collaboratively with a cross-disciplinary team of engineers on technical tasks. Works on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring analysis to understand or judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations. Normally receives little supervision on daily work or routine situations, and receives general instructions on newly introduced assignments.

Education & Experience

Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience; or Associate’s degree and a minimum of 6 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills

Ability to read electrical schematics is required. Use of schematic capture tools (e.g., Altium, Orcad) is desired.

Familiarity with PCB layout browser tools (e.g., Altium, PADS, Xpedition) is desired.

Proficiency with solder station for PCBA rework/repair is required.

Experience using electrical lab test equipment such as oscilloscopes, arbitrary waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, and RF signal generators is required.

Strong problem-solving and communication skills are required.

Familiarity with Microsoft Office and other productivity tools (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.) is required.

Working knowledge of programmable logic devices is desired.

Experience with RF systems and optical fiber systems is desired.

Must be able to obtain/maintain a US Government security clearance if one is required to perform the job responsibilities.

Working Conditions

Primarily an engineering technician function with office and engineering lab working conditions.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift/move test equipment up to 50 lb. Ability to perform circuit board rework, soldering, cable assembly, and component assembly tasks which requires use of hand tools and soldering tools.

Safety Requirements
