Job Details:
: Produces electronic designs by developing and testing to a set of requirements, standards and procedures. Focuses on continuously improving the designs and procedures to exceed customer expectations. This job requires strong analytical and technical abilities and demands fast, but carefully thought-out results. Works closely with other engineering disciplines – systems, software, mechanical, optics and production. Duties require application of engineering principles and techniques. This position typically works under general supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts or participates in research, design, development and testing of digital, analogue and radio frequency hardware to include circuit design and sub-system integration for designated products and/or customer applications.
- Keeps abreast of industry improvements in hardware engineering techniques.
- Trouble-shoots and solves technical issues.
- Assists in product definition. This includes but is not limited to defining product technical and commercial requirements, proposing product solution alternatives, contributing to product briefs, deriving hardware requirements from customer requirements and writing product specifications and test plans.
- Develops design methodically by producing detailed design notes, simulation models, schematics entry, PCB layout, prototyping, validation testing, writing test reports and product manuals.
- Assists in the transition of the product from prototype to production. This includes interfacing with subcontractors or process team as required.
- Evaluate, select and audit electronic component suppliers and electronic subassembly suppliers.
- Design production test equipment for the product being manufactured
- Provide input to production documentation.
- Specifies materials, equipment and supplies.
- Modifies existing engineering designs.
- Logs, compiles and evaluates engineering data.
- Writes engineering manuals, procedures and reports.
- Applies and maintains quality standards.
- Mentors/guides more junior members of the team
- May give work assignments and check work of Design Engineers, Technicians, or Design Support personnel on a common project.
- May provide technical direction and guidance to Design Engineers, Technicians, or Design Support personnel assigned to work on a common project.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in the field of electronics or electrical engineering, computer science, or other relevant technical discipline.
Skills/Experience/Knowledge
- 5 years’ experience in a similar field.
- Experience in digital and analogue circuits, low–power battery-based designs and microcontroller-based designs.
Desirable:
- Experience with Altium designer Suite would be preferred.
- Experience with RF design and EMC would be an advantage.
- Experience and awareness of embedded software capabilities and functions would be advantageous.
