Function as a technical specialist or in a lead substation design role encompassing EHV transmission level voltage class.
Under general direction, develops and applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to complex engineering problems.
Provide technical guidance over a group or supervise engineering staff on substation design projects.
May responsible for developing, validating, and presenting specialist/technical output.
Will lead other engineers and interface directly with clients.
Be responsible for the overall execution and quality of substation projects as a leader within a team environment.
Key Responsibilities Engineering Standards: Develop and maintain budgets and schedules for multiple substation design projects Perform EHV substation design, including physical design, protective relaying/control with an emphasis on continuous improvement Developing Scoping documents for EHV substation projects Provides guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Customer policies Assists in developing, maintaining and updating engineering standards Provides technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplines Quality/Continuous Improvement: Independently applies knowledge and complies with Customer quality program relative to assigned tasks Responsible for ensuring compliance with Customer quality program while performing internal Quality Assurance technical reviews Provides related guidance and direction to others Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts Engineering Production: Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects Performs complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection Oversees collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work Prepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles Manages assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements Reviews lower level engineering work or assignments Is responsible for one or more of the following: leading larger production teams; coordinating multiple discipline activity; and serving as the responsible charge for a project Project Coordination: Actively coordinates with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects Manage the work assignments and ensures quality from direct reports and project team(s) Actively participate in management, project scheduling, and work/resource planning meetings Client Focus: Interface directly with clients, vendors and subcontractors Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on moderately complex projects Typically provides support to business development or pursuit activities Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology: Serves as a technical specialist and has knowledge and skill set to provide consultation and guidance to project teams in a particular practice area Typically supports multiple projects on the complex technical challenges People Management - (supervision, career development, training, mentoring): Typically assists with performance management process, mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions required May participate in career planning, and learning and development Mentor less experienced engineers Provide constructive feedback to other professionals on performance May be a supervisor of other engineers and technicians Resource Management - (budgets, tools, processes, project support): Implements resource management strategy Manages engineering resources for small groups of a single discipline Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
Minimum of 8 years related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Power/Power Systems experience preferred
Quality Assurance and Quality Control of EHV substation design projects
EHV Substation design experience (physical & P&C)
Technical experience preferred
Performs complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
Prepare one-lines, connection diagrams, panel elevations and protection & control schematics for power substation equipment.
Prepare auxiliary power equipment sizing calculations. Design wiring diagrams for protective relaying panels.
Perform complex engineering calculations/studies related to substation projects such as: lightning protection, conduit fill, AC/DC station service loading, surge arrester sizing and voltage drop.
Create RTU control, status and analog point lists, raceway/cable schedules along with maintenance/signage and nameplates
Prepare equipment arrangement, grounding, foundation and conduit plans for high voltage substations.
Review shop drawings, vendor quotes and perform bid evaluations.
Develop construction release documents.
Experience 500KV - 13.8KV substations, varying voltage classes
Experience with open air and/or GIS
Experience with designing different types of bus configurations
Raceway drawings, grounding drawings, plan and section drawings
Manages budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Actively coordinate with others on the team Delegate and supervise the work of younger engineers Communicate with upper management and provide status updates on engineering design activities.
