JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Senior Electrical Engineer B will assume lead engineering responsibility for one or more related phases of work of an engineering discipline as directed by a manager.  This position is required to perform Electrical Engineering functions including design, assembly/construction, and testing of electrical systems and components.  Responsibilities include developing work scope and plans/documents related to the maintenance and operation of electrical systems and site infrastructure.  

REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • Minimum bachelor’s in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of six (6) years’ related experience in electrical engineering.
  • Graduate degree in engineering may be substituted for some experience.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Must possess mastery knowledge of engineering theories, principles, techniques, policies, regulations, and legal requirements to apply theories and new technologies to successfully complete a wide variety of complex assignments.  Must be able to identify and resolve a wide variety of complex assignments.  Must possess highly developed organizational skills and be able to manage projects and special assignments to deliver results on time and within budget. 
  • Must be able to work independently under consultative direction and to be technically competent to work on the most complex engineering activities and recommend changes in systems and procedures.   Must be able to act as lead person or technical expert to direct the work of others, develop and implement special projects and resources, write procedures and guidelines.
  • Must be able to use independent judgment to provide solutions to a wide range of complex problems.  
  • Must be able to coordinate activities and provide technical guidance for engineers concerned with the area of assignment.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of DOE conduct of engineering requirements and capable of following implementation guidelines.
  • Must be able to perform broad and intensive practices to establish concepts, theories, or programs, or to resolve complex problems.  Must possess mastery knowledge of industry specific software applications
  • Must justify, defend, negotiate, or settle matters involving significant or controversial issues in accordance with engineering practices. 
  • Must demonstrate research and creative skills: 
    • To determine solutions.
    • To receive assignments, gather information, and to present findings to manager or more senior engineers.
    • With engineers, technicians, and crafts personnel to determine testing or operational requirements, give instructions in work procedures, and coordinate preparation of test results, work procedures, and other documentation required by the position.
    • To acquire information from customers or vendors.
  • Must be able to interface with individuals or groups from inside and outside of the organization, senior management, as well as high-ranking officials from outside the organization.  May be required to make presentations to employees, managers, senior managers and/or others.

  3. Coordinate the preparing, reviewing and evaluation of engineering documents.
  4. Coordinate engineering products, systems and programs development.
  5. Perform the evaluation, peer review and/or confirmation of adequacy of engineering products, systems and programs.
  6. Ensure the quality of the product, system and/or program.
  7. Coordinate preparing and scheduling to perform and integrate work.
  8. Maintain and increase professional technical knowledge and proficiency.
  9. Regular attendance is required.
  10. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
