The Role
The Senior Electrical Engineer – Clean Energy will oversee all electrical engineering scopes of work supporting the delivery of multidisciplinary projects through their feasibility, pre-construction and/or construction phases with a specific focus on the electrical design aspects of projects. She/He will act as Wood’s Subject Matter Expert (SME) for electrical engineering, managing projects as a technical advisor and/or Owner’s Engineer. This role will have a focus on all Clean Energy technologies including but not limited to solar PV, energy storage and microgrids, onshore and offshore wind, long duration storage and hybrid projects.
The Wood EE team provides the following services in all renewables including onshore and offshore wind, solar PV, energy storage and microgrid, and high voltage transmission: Owner’s engineering, including preliminary design, and third party design review of electrical plans, specifications, calculations, and studies; interconnection services including grid interconnection studies and applications, technical due diligence of new construction and repowering, including construction monitoring, in support of project financing, for developers, lenders, investors, and buy/sell mergers and acquisitions. Our teams apply significant experience in regulatory issues as applied in interconnection, grid operations, and transmission planning.
Wood is looking for a dynamic individual with great communication skills, ability to develop strong relationships with internal Project Managers as well as with Customers to solve their techno-economic challenges when designing and constructing a project.
The ideal candidate will have diverse experience in design, construction, interconnection, and repowering of utility scale renewable energy projects, and will be eager to support growing a business with an entrepreneurial spirit and day to day team lead responsibilities (operations support management) of a high energy and nimble team.

ResponsibilitiesTypical responsibilities
- Focus upon Leading and managing the electrical design team on the delivery of renewable energy projects (primarily solar PV projects).
- Providing advisory and design solutions for clean energy project development and technical delivery as part of the clean energy team.
- Acting as advisor and first escalation path on the electrical team’s projects, coordinating and supervising work by junior personnel, other company divisions, and subcontractors
- Regularly and accurately reporting the status of projects to senior management.
- Act as the main interface and manage the relationship with clients and contractors.
- Ensuring health, safety and environmental considerations are integral to the delivery of projects and project tasks.
- Add value, avoid/resolve issues, mitigate risks and manage project’s finances and contracts by applying robust project management practices and experience from previous projects.
- Contribute to business development activities and assist in securing new opportunities for the company.
- Participation at site visits and meetings in the USA and abroad.
- Independently, train and develop junior staff, manage sensitive and confidential customer information, and ability to understand when to delegate and escalate tasks and issues as they arise
- Disseminate knowledge and experiences to other team members and supporting the development of the team and team members.

Expected:
- Bachelor's or Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience with electrical engineering and power production
- At least 5 years of design, consulting, or operations experience working with clients, service providers, contractors, OEMs, Owner/Developers, Lenders or regulators in the energy field
- North American experience and familiarity with codes and compliances are required.
- Experience in the design of electrical engineering systems in a project team environment for electrical distribution systems including the selection of equipment (transformers, metal clad switchgear), materials, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications.
- Management of projects and staff in a technical consultancy or similar environment.
- Ability to prepare high quality, concise documents to convey project progress, status and financial information to internal and external project stakeholders.
- Excellent communication (written and spoken) in English, with the ability to engage and interface with stakeholders.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of Electrical Engineering standards, best practices and safety regulations.
- Working knowledge of utility scale generation and interconnection; including process, requirements, and implementation.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- A flexible and proactive approach to completing work.
- Valid driving license for use within USA.
- Willingness for occasional domestic travel (up to 20%).
- Must be a US Citizen or authorized to work lawfully in the US, without sponsorship from Wood.

- PE license in power
- Bilingualism or a proficiency in Spanish
