POSITION SUMMARY

/ Design complex industrial control systems for plasma welders, plasma melters, induction vacuum casters, electron beam melters, and vacuum arc re-melters, as well as associated material handling equipment.

/ Create electrical schematics, write ladder logic PLC code, develop human machine interface screens, and test/troubleshoot the finished industrial control system. Lead teams of designers and drafters on multiple projects simultaneously. Test, install, troubleshoot, and provide training on the use of large capital equipment projects mainly in the specialty metals industry. This may require extensive domestic and international travel.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

/ Responsible for designing and/or approving, in detail, all final control system designs, design changes, specifications, and drawing releases and ensuring their compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, NFPA 70E and related specifications.

/ Develop PLC code, HMI screens, and HMI code for complex industrial control systems.

/ Support construction, installation, and startup activities domestically and internationally for products, interfacing with customers; installing, operating, and troubleshooting systems; and developing process knowledge.

/ Conduct internal and external design reviews that address project requirements and incorporate input from customers, vendors, engineering colleagues, designers, and operations personnel.

/ Develop written methods and procedures for testing equipment and systems.

/ Generate high quality written reports, proposals, instructions, manuals, white papers, and other documentation that may be distributed to customers, internal users, or the public at large.

/ Provides reports on the status of project milestones and adjusts schedules accordingly.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

/ Knowledge of three-phase power systems and motor controls.

/ Knowledge of and experience with P&IDs, hydraulics and vacuum systems, and electrical standards (including CE marking, and UL). 

/ Knowledge of and experience with Visual Basic programming.

/ A highly organized approach to system design, programming, and documentation.

/ Proven track record of generating innovative and practical ideas.

/ Ability to develop project plans, maintain project schedules, adhere to budget.

/ A work style which is “people oriented” and can obtain the best out of team members.

/ Working knowledge of Vacuum Metallurgy, Plasma Welders & Melters, Electron Beam Melters, and Vacuum Arc Re-melters.


Education and Experience:

/ Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technologies.

/ Zero to two years’ experience working as an Electrical Engineer, Project Engineer, or similar, preferably designing industrial control systems for high temperature furnaces, heavy material handling equipment, or other capital equipment. 

/ Zero to two years’ experience programming with RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000 programming software or similar.

/ Zero to two years’ experience programming with Wonderware, Ignition HMI or similar.

/ Experience with vacuum systems and associated interlocking preferred.

/ Extensive experience developing, verifying, and validating complex control system interlocks preferred.

/ Experience with Solidworks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar preferred.

Physical Demands:

/ The work environment is an office setting with periodic need to visit the plant floor. 

/ This position may be required to work long hours extending into the weekends on some occasions.

Salary Description
$60,000 - $72,500 Annually DOE
