Job Description:
The RF Engineer IV is responsible for the design and optimization of Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and wireless communication systems. This role requires advanced use of iBwave software for in-building design plans, RFDS creation, and expertise in meeting U.S. based carrier KPIs, including AT&T-specific online tools and compliance standards. Additional responsibilities include cross-functional coordination, site survey analysis, and ensuring all designs meet industry, safety, and fire-code standards.

Β

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create comprehensive models and design Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and wireless-communication systems based on site surveys, floor plans, and project scopes.
  • Incorporate system design into the creation of carrier RFDS and CIQ documentation.
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize tasks based on internal and customer priority.
  • Identify and address coverage gaps; design LTE, CBRS, Private LTE, and WiFi networks to optimize seamless coverage.
  • Perform antenna selection, propagation modeling, and validate RF designs.
  • Develop and optimize both indoor and outdoor network topologies, including small cells and LTE overlays, to meet immediate and future network needs.
  • Plan for and integrate emerging technologies, including mmWave 5G, CBRS, and frequency management.
  • Understand various systems testing and their unique impacts on system design and functionality.
  • Select and recommend network hardware to support future scalability and technological advancements.
  • Utilize iBwave to simulate RF propagation and model real-world building scenarios.
  • Conduct Link Budget analysis, schedule Continuous Wave (CW) testing, and apply CW data to fine-tune propagation models.
  • Collaborate with DAS construction teams, field engineering, and project management to resolve design-related inquiries and validate test plans.
  • Validate in-building public safety network coverage and compliance with fire code requirements through iBwave and other DAS tools.
  • Prepare and lead knowledge-sharing sessions to enhance the technical proficiency and growth of the engineering team, focusing on upcoming technologies such as mmWave, CBRS, and 5G advancements.
  • Demonstrate proactive problem-solving and decision-making to achieve project objectives, meeting client needs while upholding compliance with regulatory standards and company values.
  • Attend regular client meetings to provide project updates, address technical inquiries, and gather feedback; work onsite at client offices as needed to ensure seamless communication, project alignment, and proactive support for client requirements and expectations.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in RF theory.
  • 5+ years designing iDAS, oDAS, and Small Cells for 5G and LTE networks.
  • Certification and expert proficiency in iBwave DAS design.
  • OEM knowledge including (but not limited to) Comba, Cel-Fi, CommScope, and SOLiD.
  • Extensive experience in RFDS creation and AT&T's proprietary tools and access platforms.
  • Comprehensive understanding of U.S. based carrier KPIs, compliance criteria, and Public Safety best practices, including fire-code knowledge.
  • Knowledge of LTE and NR wireless principles, RF propagation, and performing link budget analysis.
  • Experience with mapping and planning tools for RF networks, including thematic heat maps.
  • Proficiency in office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail oriented and receptive to feedback.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Must be authorized to work in the USA.

Β

Preferred:

  • NICET Design Certification
  • iBwave L2 or L3 certification
  • Experience in alternative modeling-and-design software (e.g. ATOLL, RAN Plan, etc)
