An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Instrumentation Engineer to join our team on a permanent basis and lead a talented team. 

You will be the technical lead for all Instrument and Electrical installations on all capital projects at the Edinburgh site. Ensuring all designs and installations are carried out in accordance with the site engineering standards. This could be the next opportunity for you. 

 To be successful in this role you will need to be flexible, organised and work well within a team. You will also be able to communicate well with external and internal customers as well as having strong computer literacy skills (MS Office)

Key responsibilities

  • Act as the site E+I SME on all CAPEX designs and installations.
  • Manage contract E+I discipline engineers, ensuring they comply with the business standards.
  • Manage the project EPC contractor to ensure their designs are in compliance with the site standards and support them with the prompt answers to TQs received.
  • Liaise with Maintenance & Compliance teams to ensure E+I proposals are aligned to the site requirements. 
  • Responsible for budget control and reporting for all projects under their direction 
  • Mange Functional Safety compliance on CAPEX projects, ensuring on-going conformance to Functional Safety Lifecycle requirements of IEC 61508 / 61511.  including verification of design / installation and system certification.
  • Ensure new E&I equipment installed are assessed for (Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality impact) with appropriate PM tasks identified
  • Ensure critical spares for new installations have been identified and ordered.
  • Provide technical input where requested into the current site standards to ensure they remain up to date and aligned with current best practice.
  • Ensure IS calculations and loop drawings are updated for all CAPEX projects
  • Provide hands on support during project handover 
  • Support training of the operational teams for any new installations 
  • Ensure qualification / quality obligations are met for all project I & E activity.
  • Provide technical guidance to all departments, including root cause analysis, troubleshooting and fault finding of E&I issues
  • Provide add-hoc technical support to maintenance and compliance teams for any ongoing operational issues on plant.

What you need for the role

  • Chartered Qualification in Electrical, Instrumentation & Control 
  • Experience and proven track record of delivering complex engineering E+I projects
  • Experience of permit to work systems (including working at height, confined space, isolations)
  • Experience of project budget control and reporting 
  • Experience leading a team of discipline E+I engineers in a project environment
  • Experience with installations in hazardous areas (ATEX)
  • Experience with site commissioning and fault finding
