Responsibilities Include:
The candidate will report to the Electrical Systems Manager. S/He will take ownership of several aspects of the electrical architecture and components in GAF Energy’s solar products. The candidate will integrate novel module-level power electronic technologies into GAF Energy’s laminate and electrical balance of the system. The candidate will be a member of a lean team of electrical and power electronics engineers. S/He collaborates with other teams within GAF Energy and external suppliers of parts and services. The successful candidate will be expected to:
Integrate components such as grid-connected inverters and module-level power electronics into GAF Energy’s solar shingles and electrical system
Model and simulate power electronics circuits, components, and systems
Develop and execute test plans for photovoltaic systems and components
Contribute to the evolution of the electrical system architecture by integrating 3rd party solutions and developing new concepts
Develop specifications, design detailed schematics, and select proper components for power electronics hardware prototypes
Work with 3rd party vendors and contract manufacturers
Support certification projects for electrical components and systems
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, PV laminate, and reliability engineers to deliver designs suitable for manufacturing and product integration
Program embedded controllers within the hardware to implement control routines, modulation methods, and protection
Qualifications:
A graduate degree in electrical engineering (preferred), or BS degree in electrical engineering with 3+ years of experience or equivalent in power electronics
Familiar with power electronics fundamentals such as DC/DC, DC/AC, and AC/DC converters, switching devices, and passive elements
Familiar with solar photovoltaic energy systems
Working knowledge of grid-connected inverters, maximum power point tracking techniques, and battery chargers
Fundamental knowledge of analog and digital circuits
Familiar with embedded programming for control and modulation of power converters
Familiar with power electronics modeling tools such as Matlab/Simulink
Familiar with PCB layout design tools such as Altium Designer
Able to travel to and from testing facilities in San Jose and San Rafael
Travel Requirement: up to 30% through the states and internationally
Individuals hired for this position can reasonably expect a base salary within the range of $100,000 - $140,000.
