YOUR PROFILE
We are seeking a self-motivated team player who enjoys the challenge of working within the confines of the electric utility rules and regulations, while finding a way to expedite the process of connecting large scale renewable energy projects. Our North American team is knowledgeable and collaborative, and we tackle the everyday challenges of interconnection with a positive attitude and the willingness to learn.
YOUR CHALLENGE
Reporting to the Interconnection Director, your role and responsibilities will be as follows:
- Provide technical guidance to the Development, M&A / Commercial, EPC, and Asset Management teams regarding new and existing project opportunities.
- Interpret market rules as they apply to the interconnection study, construction, and operation of generation projects.
- Manage the submittal of application packages for interconnection
- Interface with and manage transmission and interconnection-related third-party engineers and other consultants as necessary
- Review utility studies (feasibility, impact, and facility) and utility expansion plan to identify potential opportunities.
- Coordinate with engineering to ensure all studies and simulations meet the requirements for interconnection. Ensure the engineering of new projects is in compliance with all requirements from the independent system operator, transmission provider, and/or local utility.
- Provide assistance during project design and construction for interconnection-related issues. Conduct transmission/interconnection due diligence to adequately estimate timing and cost impacts.
- Perform site visits and report on issues specific to the interconnection facilities.
- Ensure compliance of self and others on-site during construction with federal, state, and local laws and with Boralex safety and environmental standards, policies, and practices.
- Establish with the independent system operator, transmission provider, and/or local utility the required tests and documentation that are required prior to interconnecting as well as any staged process of interconnection to ensure full compliance at the facility, resulting in a full acceptance of the Power Plant on time (scheduled COD) by all related parties in such a way that no forecasted generation income is lost.
- Participate in various industry groups dealing with interconnection and market issues.
- Represent Boralex within the industry, including professional presentations to national trade groups, and acting as an advisor to industry boards. Maintain affiliation with professional societies to keep abreast of current technologies.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
YOUR SKILLS
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering required, ABET accredited program, or equivalent required, P.E. or P.Eng License preferre
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in power systems engineering in a consulting or utility environment. Protections and Controls is a plus
- Minimum of 4 years of transmission interconnection experience
- Advanced understanding of utility interconnection studies
- Demonstrate continuous commitment to safe operations. Be an active role model and constant resource to the organization.
- Excellent communications skills, with the ability to provide training on complex operations
- Ability to communicate detailed information accurately to internal/external customers
- Ability to professionally represent the company when dealing with external organizations.
- Ability to travel 5% -15% of the time to domestic and international locations.
- Able to work in an indoor or outdoor environment.
- Must be able to provide training and support to other engineers
