Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is seeking an Electrical Engineering Manager 3 to lead our Electrical Ground Support Equipment team. This position will be at our Propulsion Systems Division facility located at our Bacchus (Magna), UT location

Roles and Responsibilities:

As an engineering manager over the Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) team, the selected candidate will lead all Propulsion Systems efforts to develop, provide and maintain EGSE associated with various rocket programs.  This role is a multi-faceted position covering all aspects of EGSE including overseeing day to day operations of the team including employee development & mentoring, performance management, personnel recruiting & retention, staffing, communications, technical support to programs and technology/business development efforts.  The role is complimented by the ability/experience to recognize areas where EGSE may support Programs and articulate the design approach and implementation if used. To enable success of the EGSE effort, the manager also oversees a fully integrated small scale electronic equipment shop with direct line resources for design and build (including software) and matrixed resources for other functions like procurement, training and quality.  The manager overseeing the electronics build space and all equipment contained therein must ensure maintenance of a safe working environment, ensuring work instructions are provided, along with necessary materials, supplies, tools and measuring equipment.  With multiple programs and efforts ongoing in parallel the EGSE manager on any given day may need to provide estimates for new equipment, create a Gantt chart schedule plan for a build, address a conflicting build priority, address a problem with a build and ensure an item is readied for delivery (must be flexible, capable and agile).  The EGSE manager role is multifaceted and enabled to address all needs to accomplish the business objectives or providing EGSE for Propulsion Systems products.  The EGSE manager will be the PS technical lead, technical contributor and technical consultant to the many PS efforts using EGSE.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Software Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology and 8 years’ experience or MS and 6 years.   Other degree types will be considered with relevant technical and/or managerial experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in designing, developing, producing, upgrading or maintaining ground test sets or electrical ground equipment which interfaces and function’s high reliability space and missile systems to perform checkouts or tests or operations

  • Minimum 5 years in supervisory or management capacity of a team of electrical design engineers, software design engineers and technicians (or equivalent)

  • Familiarity with NI LabView equipment and software and capabilities that equipment and software can provide

  • Basic understanding of high reliability space workmanship and quality standards and application thereof for build of electrical test equipment

  • Supervisory and management experience of a team of electrical design engineers, software design engineers and technicians

  • Experience in determining project scope, plans, cost estimates and schedules and justifying inputs to proposals

  • Knowledge of the requirements for electronics build environment and related tools, equipment, maintenance and safety protocols

  • Ability to quickly adapt in an environment of conflicting needs, resource scarcity and daily problems

  • Ability to set the vision and helps others visualize where and how EGSE can improve the product and enhance safety in the operations.  Ability to set the standard for those developing the EGSE to sustain the capability, quality and safety of EGSE.  Ability to work in collaboration with program managers to market and promote NG developed EGSE and be the go to person for questions about operational issues and upkeep.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in design and build of complex electronic test equipment based on NI LabView compatible hardware

  • Experience in creating software design and requirement artifacts such as a Software Requirement Specifications, Interface Requirement Specifications, Version Description Documents and a working knowledge of software configuration management practices

  • At least 5 years demonstrated experience running and maintaining an build space for high reliability electronics

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful candidate must be able to pass a background check for the Federal Safe Explosives Act (SEA)

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80A. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Salary Range: $161,500.00 - $242,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
