Pretium Engineering is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Electrical Engineering Intern to join our team for a one-year internship. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in the design and analysis of electrical systems within a dynamic and collaborative environment. You will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers on various projects, contributing to the design and implementation of electrical systems for commercial, residential, and industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the design and development of electrical systems including lighting, power, distribution, and fire alarm systems.
  • Support electrical calculations for overcurrent protection, equipment sizing, voltage drop, and load analysis.
  • Participate in the preparation of technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Assist with the preparation of construction documents using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Conduct site visits to collect data and verify installations.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to ensure compliance with project schedules and technical specifications.
  • Review project drawings and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide input on design decisions.
Technical Requirements

Educational Background:
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience/Knowledge in Electrical Systems Design:
  • Design experience in lighting, power, distribution, and/or fire alarm systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical calculations for overcurrent protection, equipment sizing, voltage drop, and load analysis.
  • Familiarity with relevant electrical codes and standards such as the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC).
Software Skills:
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Revit for creating and modifying electrical drawings.
  • Experience with lighting calculation software (e.g., AGI) is a strong asset.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel for report writing and data analysis.
Communication Skills:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document and present findings.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Skills and Qualities:
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and take initiative.
  • Strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to project work.
Bonus Skills and Experience
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency standards and sustainable design principles.
  • Experience with renewable energy systems and solutions.
  • Previous internship or work experience in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Familiarity with electrical simulation software (e.g., ETAP, SKM PowerTools).
