LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP:

This internship will begin in May 2025 and continue through December 2025. The work schedule is flexible between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The internship requires a minimum of 10-12 hours per week during the semester and 40 hours per week in the summer months.  

 

THE JOB: The Electrical Engineering Intern will support electrical and software engineering principles. This intern will work in various areas of the R&D department, including updating existing embedded electronic designs to utilize current microcontroller and sensor technology, including research and identification of new technology, testing in circuit to validate new sensor behavior, updating embedded firmware, and documentation of design updates.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Documents electronics design through schematics, block diagrams, bills of materials, and specifications
  • Documents embedded software design through flowcharts, block diagrams, outlines, and written descriptions as needed
  • Writes firmware to deliver required functions of the embedded device, including state machines, RTOS, wired and wireless communication, troubleshooting and diagnostic routines, in circuit reprogramming, I/O interfaces, data storage, audio, sensors, electro-mechanical devices, and bare metal programming
  • Specifies components and helps maintain a Bill of Materials for the project
  • Populates prototype printed circuit board assemblies using both automated and hand soldering techniques
  • Brings up new PCBAs, applying power for the first time and verifying functionality of core systems
  • Develops test procedures, individually and with Design Verification Team, and conduct testing to prove a new product or improvement
  • Troubleshoots and solves hardware and software issues that arise during testing, both individually and by the test team
  • Designs and builds test fixtures for use by internal and contracted manufacturers to facilitate manufacture and test of production PCBAs and products

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enrolled or a recent graduate in a degree program focused on Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Solid foundation in electrical engineering fundamentals

 

WORK LOCATION: This position is expected to work onsite at the Realityworks corporate office at 2709 Mondovi Rd, Eau Claire, WI.
