Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Junior-level Electrical Engineer to join our Vancouver office. As part of the Electrical Group, the Electrical Engineer will work closely with the Vancouver-based team as well as the international Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation (MEI) team to support design efforts on complex engineering projects. This role will work on both large and small projects locally, domestically and internationally preparing plans, designs and plan production for general electrical engineering on a wide variety of projects which may include lighting, power, and grounding plans, one-line diagrams, panel and cable schedules, and different project specifications. Projects include: electrical infrastructure for ports, waterfronts, industrial, commercial, government and military facilities. You will work with an international MEI team and Senior Engineers around the company through our intraoffice staff utilization program, supporting projects both on the job site as well as in the office.

  • Supports the completion of electrical designs to support firm-wide projects by working with Project Managers (any discipline) and electrical teammates
  • Supports project managers by providing design calculations, design drawings, and project specifications for the following but not limited to:
    • Medium/low voltage power distribution systems
    • Grounding systems
    • Lighting systems
    • Lightning protection systems
    • Communications systems
    • Electrical equipment design (including switchboards and switchgear)
    • Selective coordination and arc flash studies
  • Assist with the electrical designs for multidiscipline projects
  • Assist with evaluations of project scopes 
  • Assist in companywide Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes
  • Assist with electrical material quantity estimates, cost esimtates, and equipment procurement support services to clients
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology; required
    • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering; preferred
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng) certification; preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience in:
    • Medium/low voltage power distribution systems
    • Grounding systems
    • Lighting systems
    • Communications systems
    • Electrical equipment design (including switchboards and switchgear)
    • Selective coordination and arc flash studies preferred
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit; required
  • Proficiency ETAP or EasyPower and AGI32; preferred
  • Experience or knowledge of low voltage and high voltage shore power systems; preferred
  • Experience or knowledge of power generation (standby or prime) and transfer switches; preferred
  • Experience in electrical trade; preferred
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation) 
  • Availability and willingness to travel
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171 

Base salary range:  

$39.00 to $48.00 per hour based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description. 

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the Vancouver, Canada markets.   

Working conditions: 

Sedentary for prolonged period of time, interact with clients, and travel occasionally.
