Summary of Description:

Develop and oversee the engineering and design efforts for construction drawings/packages for projects.

Duties:

  • Develop electrical specifications, such as generators and motors, power transformers, power circuit breakers, medium and low voltage power distribution equipment (switchgear, MCCs, etc.) with minimal assistance from senior engineers.
  • Develop drawings for new or modifications of existing power distribution systems, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Assist with reviewing and checking engineering packages for accuracy and quality.  
  • Assist with developing construction scopes of work, front-end engineering and design project scopes and project execution plans.
  • Gather data from electrical equipment and systems. Conduct field evaluations to support project work involving new and existing power systems, independently.
  • Size electrical equipment, cable, cable tray and conduit.
  • Assist with preparation of technical bid evaluations.  
  • Assist with coordinating electrical heat trace system design.
  • Assist with applying hazardous Area Classification methodology, including determination of classified areas, equipment requirements, etc.  
  • Assist with performing electrical system modeling using ETAP, SKM, etc. Able to use field and manufacturer data to build models. 
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in a related technical field from an accredited University with at least three (3) years’ experience in industrial, petrochemical, chemical or utility industries or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. 

Must have experience with the following:

  • Medium and low voltage power distribution equipment (Switchgear, transformers, MCCs, etc.).
  • Developing drawings for new or modifications of existing power distribution systems, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Electrical equipment, cable, cable tray and conduit sizing.
  • Hazardous Area Classification methodology, including determination of classified areas, equipment requirements, etc.  
  • Implementing recommended protection settings and generation of protection relay settings files.

Must be familiar with the following:

  • Reviewing and checking engineering packages for accuracy and quality.  
  • Developing construction scopes of work, front-end engineering and design project scopes and project execution plans.  
  • Gathering data from electrical equipment and systems. Conduct field evaluations to support project work involving new and existing power systems.
  • Preparation of technical bid evaluations.  
  • Electrical Heat Trace Systems.
  • Performing electrical system modeling using ETAP, SKM, etc. Able to use field and manufacturer data to build models.  

Additional skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Software capability: MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PDF Editor software.

License/Certification Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License as per State law or requirement.
  • Registered Engineer Intern (E.I.), preferred.
  • TWIC card (or ability to obtain).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plant and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year.
  • Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperature by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods up to 15 minutes without a break.
  • Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.
  • Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection.
  • Ability to sit at desk and operate computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear.
  • Ability to see with visual acuity and distinguish between colors.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. on a regular basis is required and at times lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.
