Responsibilities and Expectations: 


Integrated Power Services (IPS) is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the IPS Service Center in Burlington NC. This position will provide engineering and functional support focused on achieving technical and operational excellence. This position will also collaborate with other engineers across IPS Power Management Division to develop engineering processes and technologies that advance the strategic vision and mission of IPS and, also ensure IPS Southland Service Center has a thriving, safe, capable, and reliable work environment.

  • Provide engineering support to management, sales, and operational teams at the service center.
  • Assist with integration and harmonization of engineering activities, procedures, and techniques.
  • Develop designs, single line diagrams, and drawings for power system equipment such as switchboards, switchgears, and motor control centers.
  • Develop and create design of such projects including switchboard, LV and MV switchgear, MCCs, E-houses.
  • Liaison with shop supervisors and operation manager to oversee construction of the equipment.
  • Assist and maintain operational flow of the main shop and satellite facilities.
  • Run batting order report on a weekly basis for project deadlines and operational flow for projects in the shop.
  • Specify parts and collaborate with procurement on ordering parts for projects and maintaining long lead stock items.
  • Collaborate with and oversee Quality Program, and assist in QC procedure for power equipment, repair and reconditioning standards.
  • Collaborate on development and maintaining quality standards, and checklist, checks on materials outsourced.
  • Assist in field service support, control wiring, and troubleshooting when needed.
  • Contribute to the IPS Path training program to elevate the knowledgebase across IPS and help train the next generation of technicians and engineers.
  • Actively participate in the IPS UCE tier meeting process.
  • Develop and maintain repair/field service work procedures and work instructions.
  • Contribute to building the technical repository for standard work instructions, forms, data sheets and final reports.
  • Provide training and mentorship to younger engineers and technicians, perform skills assessments, and conduct service center, field service and distribution technical training.
  • Assist HSE in safety issues.
  • Utilize Continuous Improvement Process Solution (CIPS) tools and Processes.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • The successful candidate should possess 5+ years of experience and the following qualifications:
  • Diligence: Ability to design and develop intricate electrical systems and electronic components, meticulously tracking multiple design elements and technical requirements throughout these processes.
  • Strong Knowledge of Electrical Engineering Principles: proficiency in applying principles of engineering, electrical engineering discipline, design, and troubleshooting, specifically in the following areas:
    • Power control systems (switchboard, switchgear), and motor control centers.
    • Power system studies, simulation, modeling, and use of electrical design software such as ETAP, Easy Power, or similar tools.
    • Electrical distribution equipment, application, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Communication Skills: Strong collaboration skills to collaborate closely with other engineers and technicians, clearly explaining designs and reasoning.  Ability to relay instructions during product development, production, construction, and to explain complex issues to customers with little technical expertise.  Experience in reviewing and participating in contract negotiations is also desirable.
  • Project Management: Competence in managing various aspects of power systems or other projects to ensure tasks are completed on schedule and within budget.  Ability to monitor and evaluate work at job sites as projects progress.
  • Writing Skills: Excellent technical writing skills to prepare reports and summaries on interconnection studies, contribute to standards development, draft specifications, and requirement documents, and provide status reports on projects.  The ability to make findings and specifications easily understood by both technical and non-technical audiences is essential.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to drive innovations and successfully implement projects.
  • Education: BSc or BEng in Electrical Engineering or a related field. 
  • License: Professional Engineer or passing of FE Exam desired but not required
  • Travel: Must be willing to travel (up to 10%).
