Description

Are you driven to innovate? Are you energized by the excitement of developing next generation technology with a proven and successful entrepreneurially focused market leader? Are you looking to join a team of A-players who keep customers first and take their work – but not themselves – seriously?

Primex is a leading provider of integrated time synchronization and environmental monitoring solutions, serving customers across education, healthcare, and other industries. We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Electrical Engineer for the Sync & Notify product lines.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver with a diverse portfolio of built work and a deep passion for complex electromechanical systems. Experience with various PCBA software tools, entrepreneurship or consulting, aerospace, or consumer electronics is a plus.

Above all, we’re looking for someone with a positive “can-do” attitude, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to embrace challenges and learn from failures to create products that users love.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop PCBs and embedded electrical systems for IoT devices, ensuring low power consumption, miniaturization, and reliable wireless connectivity.
  • Work with RF, BLE, Wi-Fi, LoRa, and other communication hardware and protocols to ensure robust connectivity and signal integrity.
  • Work with Real-Time Clocks (RTCs) and precision timing circuits to ensure highly accurate timekeeping, synchronization, and drift compensation in IoT systems.
  • Conduct power management optimization to extend battery life in low-power IoT devices.
  • Troubleshoot and debug circuit designs, prototypes, and production issues using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Work closely with embedded software engineers to develop board support packages and troubleshoot hardware integration issues.
  • Ensure compliance with FCC, CE, UL, and other regulatory standards for consumer and industrial IoT products.
  • Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and failure mode analysis to improve product quality and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including embedded software engineers, mechanical designers, and product managers, to deliver end-to-end IoT solutions.
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and product specifications.
  • Stay up to date with emerging IoT technologies, sensor integrations, and power-efficient design techniques.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years in electrical engineering, with a preferred focus on IoT, embedded systems, and wireless communication.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical circuit design, PCB layout, and simulation tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD, SPICE, AutoCAD Electrical).
  • Strong experience with microcontrollers (ARM Cortex, ESP32, STM32, etc.) and sensor integration
  • Familiarity with battery management, power supply design, and energy harvesting techniques.
  • Writing, reviewing, and carrying out test plans at both the board level and product level of a complex electrical system
  • Serial digital communication knowledge (UART, I2C, SPI)
  • Hands-on experience with measurement and test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc)
  • Experience with EMI/EMC compliance testing and certification processes.
  • Comfortable taking a product from concept to shipping
  • Self-guided in taking a non-functioning electrical system prototype and diagnosing the problem, perform design updates, and documenting solutions and validation tests.
  • Passion for learning and problem solving
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Altium PCB design software
  • Basic skills with SolidWorks mechanical design software
  • Experience with RF applications, including integration, troubleshooting and testing of radios and GPS receivers
  • Experience with radio communications systems such as serial and Ethernet modems, Wi-Fi, etc.
  • Expertise in high-speed communication technologies such as USB and Ethernet.
  • Background in developing high-reliability and/or safety-critical electrical systems with fault-tolerant design redundancy
  • Proficiency with git or other version control systems
  • Knowledge of design principles to minimize electromagnetic emissions and improve immunity to electromagnetic interference

We value learning agility vs experience, so if you are passionate about joining the team but don’t hit all our preferred qualifications please reach out anyway!
