Tuknik Government Services is hiring an Electrical Engineer to work at our customer’s site in Arlington, VA. This is a direct, full time position with our company. Must have an Interim Secret clearance or higher.

As an Electrical Engineer, you will apply engineering knowledge in the design of facilities electrical systems including lighting, power, life safety, security, communication systems, and schedules under minimal supervision and will be responsible for recognizing project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team. You will work in a fast-paced, challenging environment where your organizational skills and attention to details will help you handle a wide array of tasks.

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:


  • Prepare electrical drawings and specifications for electrical systems in new construction and renovation projects.

  • Draft scope of work to upgrade power plants which include but not limited to MV switches, MV/LV stepdown transformers, double ended switchgears, automatic voltage regulators, automatic transfer switches, emergency generators, and paralleling prime power generating plants.

  • Perform engineering calculations which include short circuit fault current, voltage drop, demand load, lightning protection and energy density calculations.

  • Review short circuit and protective relay coordination studies, and sequence of operations for power distribution systems.

  • Review arc flash analysis studies.

  • Meet with customers as requested to explain electrical engineering technical requirements of projects.

  • Serve as an electrical engineering specialist in the design and construction of building’s electrical power distribution systems.

  • Works with building power distribution system’s equipment, emergency standby, system protection, PLC controls, interior/exterior power and lighting, bonding and grounding, and lightning protection.

  • Deals with unusual and complex power quality issues found in USG buildings.

  • Develop and/or review planning documents.

  • Conduct building code compliance evaluations while meeting the client’s facility requirements.

  • Perform peer review of plans, specification, and technical reports prepared by others.

  • Develop design concepts and cost estimates, detailed designs, scopes of work and project schedules.

  • Coordinate with architectural, civil/structural and mechanical disciplines.

  • Provide support in project design, bid and construction phases.

  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis, technical studies and feasibility studies.

  • Serve as project/team lead and/or support government lead as needed.

  • Provide contract administration support.

  • Lead the production of design and technical information and work and maintain agreed technical and design standards.

  • Detailed knowledge in programmable logic controller (PLC) design and application for building systems.


Minimum Qualifications


  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited).

  • Top Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one.

  • Seven (7) years of relevant experience analyzing performance requirements and designing systems handling very large volumes of real-time data at extremely low latencies.

  • Knowledgeable in the design of electrical systems including lightening protection, power, life safety, security, and communication systems for various projects.

  • Ability to create accurate electrical construction documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings.

  • Knowledge and understanding of workflow/information flow between disciplines and schedule constraints.

  • Must be flexible/adapt to rapidly changing project requirements/timelines.

  • Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned task.

  • Working knowledge of CAD software, example AutoCAD.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight; prioritize and communicate assignments.

  • Must be organized, self-directed, able to prioritize and multi-task, work in a team environment and take direction from others.

  • Good presentation skills.

  • Willingness to travel and work in office and field environments as necessary.

  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor, practicing strict confidentiality for all sensitive information.

  • Promotes and practices the highest standards of personal and professional conduct.

  • Ability to devise and implement improved office procedures as needed, while delivering outstanding customer service.

  • Ability to meet the minimum eligibility requirements for access to classified information, including U.S. citizenship and a background investigation.


Desired / Preferred Qualifications


  • MS degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Professional Engineering License (PE)

  • Ten (10) or more years’ relevant experience

  • Equivalent federal government and/or military experience


Working Environment & Conditions

This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The work load may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time.  The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress.  The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
