Job Description

Overview:

 

Develops plans and specifications, performs analysis, and provides reports on assigned tasks involving design and construction of new facilities or operation and maintenance of existing facilities. Technically involved in the resolution of equipment and operational problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, performing design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering support for all electrical and instrument systems to assure they are designed, installed, maintained, and modified within established safety and performance standards.
  • Manage selected projects for changes to process controls (DCS/PLC, field instrumentation) and electrical power distribution.
  • Develop planning, scope, design, and estimating to secure capital or other authorization.
  • Provide similar services for projects managed by others which have control or power requirements.
  • Programming, designing and developing new control systems hardware and software.
  • Troubleshooting, testing, maintaining and modifying existing systems including but not limited DCS, PLC and SCADA.
  • Maintain software and design-basis documentation for E&I systems (drawings, circuit breaker coordination, arc-flash calculations, etc.).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or PE in Electrical Engineering
  • Five (5) years directly related experience in the design of medium voltage systems, or commissioning, startup and troubleshooting of 480V and medium voltage systems.
  • Experience as a lead electrical engineer on a project team.
  • Experience in the natural gas or petrochemical industry.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety codes such as OSHA and NFPA70E.
  • Experience in the specification of medium voltage motor control centers, soft starts, VFDs, motors, capacitor banks, motor protection relays and switchgear.
  • Working knowledge of IEEE standards, API standards and NEC codes.
  • Experience with designing systems for hazardous location typically found in the natural gas and petrochemical industry.
