Are you passionate about Engineering? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Engineering function. As a Electrical Engineer, you’ll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.

S&C is a global provider of equipment and services for electric power systems. Founded in 1911, the Chicago-based company designs and manufactures switching and protection products for electric power transmission and distribution systems. S&C’s Custom Engineering organization designs Engineer-To-Order solutions for a portfolio of products including Circuit-Switchers and Transmission Fuses for a wide range of customers including electric utilities and industrial/ commercial power users. In this job, you will report to the Manager – Custom Engineering. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with engineers and product specialists in the development of custom features for existing switch and fuse products.
  • Designing switchgear control systems and metering circuits to meet specific customer application requirements using S&C automation products. 
  • Designing panel layouts, wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and generating Bills of Materials.
  • Specifying low voltage electrical components including protection relays, RTUs, communication devices, and instrument transformers
  • Defining requirements and writing custom instructions for production testing of control circuits. Creating special Final Assembly Inspection Checklists.
  • Generating supplementary instruction sheets that describe the operation of control circuitry.
  • Working within a team environment including interacting with other design professionals and members of the Sales Services, Production Planning and Assembly groups. Participating in cross-functional design teams to ensure customer needs are satisfied through high-quality product designs that are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Providing engineering support to a team of designers and acting as a technical resource for problem-solving activities in both design and production processes.

What you’ll Need To Succeed:

Job Requirements (To select this job at a minimum you must have the following):

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering required.
  • Experience in design and drafting of electrical schematics and interconnection diagrams for low voltage control circuits.
  • Proficiency in the use of CAD systems, preferably MicroStation, SolidEdge, or AutoCAD
  • Experience in, or working knowledge of, medium and high voltage switching, and protection products and systems is not required but is a plus
  • A strong mechanical design aptitude is not required but preferred.
  • Must be self-motivated, well-organized, and skilled decision maker that is comfortable in a fast-paced design and manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical abilities with good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills
  • Experience with scripting languages such as creation of Excel macros is a plus

  • Reaching: Infrequent reaching
  • Handling: Occasional handling of parts or tools
