GENERAL SUMMARY:  Professional with at 5 years of proven experience in electrical power systems engineering.

LOCATION: Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock, West Bethesda, MD

PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support development of advanced, innovative power distribution systems, for use in land and sea applications.
  • Perform system level analysis and trade studies informing the development of system architectures, derivation of requirements, and associated reports.
  • Provide technical oversight of contractors by reviewing documentation such as electrical and mechanical schematics, test plans and data packages, requirements traceability and verification.  
  • Support testing and troubleshooting in both laboratory and relevant environments, including the development of test pans and procedures.
  • Support proposal development and source selection.
  • Support the development of Navy standards for technologies such as batteries, battery management systems (BMS), and power system interfaces.  This includes but is not limited to the derivation of performance, safety, and manufacturing requirements, developmental process flow, design verification and validation, and production and quality assurance provisions. 
  • Provide electrical engineering support in association with Navy lithium battery safety certification testing.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE MUST HAVE:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in field of electrical power systems
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Degrees in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering accepted with appropriate experience)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret level security clearance.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willing to work on-site at least 40% of the time (60% preferred).
  • Occasional travel (estimated 0-5 trips per year).

PREFERRED:

  • Experience with power, analog, and mixed signal electronics.
  • Experience with power distribution and grounding of DC and AC power systems and electronics.
  • Experience with energy generation, storage, and conversion technologies (lithium-ion batteries, fuel cells, solar arrays, etc.).
  • Experience with renewable energy and hybrid power systems.
  • Experience with wireless power transfer.
  • Experience with design, test and verification of analog, analog power, and mixed signal electronics.
  • Experience with design, manufacture and test of printed circuits and electronics assemblies.
  • Experience with operation of standard test equipment (AC and DC power supplies, loaders, data acquisition systems) and methods of instrumentation.
  • Experience with hands-on troubleshooting of electrical systems.
  • Experience with interface buses (CAM, Mod, PCAN, RS232, etc.) and software controls.
  • Experience with digital electronics.
  • Experience with controls software.
  • Experience with Pspice or NI multisim or equivalent.
  • Experience with Matlab.
  • Experience with Labview.
  • Experience with KiCAD or equivalent circuit schematic generation tools.
  • Experience with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other microcontroller programming.
