Electrical Engineer 2 (Firmware)


Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for an Electrical Engineer 2 (Firmware) position. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide.


 


 


Job Summary:



Either leads or participates with a team to develop designs for Detection and Control products. Utilizes design skills to perform tasks independently while consulting with more experienced members for challenging situations. As a member of the group with valuable experience it is expected that they will occasionally be called on by other members and departments for assistance in their field of expertise.                                       



 


Primary Responsibilities:



1. Updates existing firmware as well as plans and develops firmware for embedded control systems, analog and digital


circuitry and micro-controller based control systems.


2. Plans and coordinates assigned project from concept to post manufacturing. This includes aiding with the completion of the project charter and product requirements documents.


3 Responsible for assuring the project progresses to completion according to schedule, budget and specification.


4. Develops computer-based models to mathematically simulate conditions with hardware component and statistical situations in the development of new products, design modifications and product components.


5. Will be responsible for assuring project is completed in compliance with ISO-9001 requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, documenting test results, conducting design reviews and coordinating with manufacturing.


6. Confers with Sales, Marketing, Production and Quality to clarify or resolve problems.


7. Creates test procedures for solving problems.


8. Performs experiments to determine necessary engineering parameters.


9. Discusses, analyzes, summarizes and publishes with appropriate personnel, test results.


10. Uses test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.


11. Evaluates test results for possible application to development of other uses.


12. Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics.


13. Performs product, component and system design.


14. Coordinates activities with appropriate approval agencies to ensure compliance of products with industry standards.


15. Confers with other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required.


16. Develops new methods and techniques for products requested by marketing.


17. Expected to solve difficult problems or issues during product development with assistance for other personnel.


18. Interacts with customers to understand product application and to provide solutions to their requirements and product problems.


19. Assists or recommends procedures for the operation of new or existing processes with product development.


20. Studies ASME, ANSI, MIL, AISI, IFI, NACE, API, AWS and NFPA standards and applies these standards to proposed designs.


21. Responsible for learning and applying any new standard listed in a product specification.


22. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshop and seminars, reviewing professional publications, networking and participating in professional societies.


23. Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.                    



Performs related duties as assigned.  Regular and consistent attendance is required.

Work Environment:



Work will be performed in an office environment or an industrial setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, hear, see, sit, and use hands. Some travel domestically and internationally as required.         



 


Job Qualifications:



REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Five years post-degree experience. Background in the application


of electronic instruments to measure dynamic events, such as explosive tests and computer, analog, and digital circuit


design.                                               


 


PREFERRED: Master’s degree in a related technical field. Registered Professional Engineer.



 


Compensation





    • The starting range for this position is $79,000 - $99,000 per year and goes up depending on experience and qualifications.
