Purpose:

Drive project team knowledge of and compliance with regulatory requirements, department guidelines, and company procedures. Identify department issues / needs and collaborate with Manager of Engineering to resolve. Support the ongoing scope delivery of project teams. Attempt to resolve inter-discipline, vendor, and client issues before elevating to Manager of Engineering. Review/forward expense claims to department management. 

Responsibilities:

  • Department Operations – Drive project team knowledge of and compliance with regulatory requirements, department guidelines, and company procedures. Identify department issues / needs and collaborate with Manager of Engineering to resolve. Support the ongoing scope delivery of project teams. Attempt to resolve inter-discipline, vendor, and client issues before elevating to Manager of Engineering. Review/forward expense claims to department management.
  • Department Communications - Attend/participate in periodic department meetings. Identify department risk/liability concerns and forward them to Manager of Engineering. May prepare and present subject matter for projects when required. Present solutions to project teams to mitigate exposure. 
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental- Support participate in and ensure the use of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs. Facilitate an atmosphere of care for people and concern for HSE issues. 
  • Business Development Support - May assist or be responsible for business development activities such as\: Maintain latest career information on resume and encourage maintenance of latest career information on employee resumes. May support business development proposal efforts. Maintain positive working relationships with client contacts, suppliers, installation contractors, other engineering consultants, and external agencies. 
  • New Employee Identification and Onboarding - Identify required employee skills/competencies. Support new employee identification (talent search, career fairs) and orientation activities. Facilitate an atmosphere where new employees' first impressions are positive. 
  • Resource Planning - Determine project staffing levels and skill set requirements and communicate to Manager of Engineering. Authorize employee timesheet submissions for project chargeable hours. Attend/participate in department resource allocation meetings. Approve project team vacation requests. Ensure project team vacation coverage and workarounds. Support employee reallocation and unplanned employee absence activities. 
  • Employee Development Program- Mentor/train and facilitate mentorship/training of department employees. Participate in and facilitate external training, internal engineering design systems (EDS)/engineering applications (EA) training, and internal department training. 
  • Employee Performance Management Program - Forward employee/team achievements and employee performance issues to department management. Participate in performance reviews. Participate in employee/team recognition activities. 
  • Employee Departures - Assist in determining employment issues and market pressures. Assist in identifying chronic or systemic employee concerns. Assist in conducting planned departures or facilitate unplanned employee departures. 
  • Technical Competency Assurance Program - Encourage project team knowledge of and compliance with department / portfolio Engineering Practices. Enforce employee adherence to generally accepted engineering/design practice. Support standardization of calculations/analyses/studies/reports. Support standardization of equipment specifications/datasheets/selection. Contribute to engineering/design knowledge. Encourage the use of intranet-based technical resources. Enforce adherence to regulatory codes and standards. Enforce adherence to engineering laws and guidelines. Enforce adherence to client guidelines, standards, and specifications whenever viable and lawful. Enforce adherence to corporate guidelines. 
  • Quality Assurance/Quality Control Program - Encourage project team knowledge of and compliance with department quality assurance and quality control guidelines. Plan/participate in technical audits in conjunction with office Quality Manager. Support CAD checking and incorporation of comments. Support engineering/design technical checking and incorporation of comments. 
  • Project Scope/Cost/Time Management - Establish the project scope, cost, and time requirements with the client, and maintain the engineering scope control documents, engineering cost estimates, and engineering project schedule. Advises the engineering and project management team regarding any issues, staffing requirements, progress slippage, scope changes, budget overruns, or other events that could affect project completion and/or profitability. Maintain a record of client-preferred design options, client-preferred equipment configurations, and scope changes. Advise and direct the team regarding the project scope/cost/time management requirements and ensure expectations are met. Obtain client approval of deliverables.
  • Project Quality Management- In conjunction with office Quality Manager contribute to project quality plan, monitor project quality assurance and quality control activities, and recommend quality improvements. Advise and direct the team regarding the project quality management requirements and facilitate meeting expectations. 
  • Project Risk Management - Participate and be responsible for the project risk assessment process, identify ongoing risks, develop workaround plans, and manage ongoing risks.
  • Project Communication Management - Execute inter-discipline reviews of deliverables, distribute deliverables, send originals/copies to central filing, handle electronic files with the client, and dispose of unretained documents. Review/approve external discipline communication created by direct reports.

What you will bring

Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements: 

  • Supervises work and performance directly and through lower-level discipline leads. Typically supervises professional or exempt personnel in single function roles. Proficient with engineering software applications.
  • Ability to effectively drive project delivery with a staffing model that integrated home office staff with workshare staff.
  • Computer proficiency required; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Accuracy and attention to detail are important. Ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities is important. The ability to prepare, present and/or supervise the development of complex project / program proposals and reports to senior-level management and customers is critical. Responsible for establishing project estimates and oversight of project budgets. Strong organizational skills as well as the ability to effectively communicate in English and take a leadership role over the group for which they have supervisory responsibilities.
  • Commitment to customer service and ability to assist others in applying knowledge and understanding in solving functional problems within the area of expertise. Ability to maintain confidential information critically.
  • Generally characterized as a "Senior Supervising Leader" with the ability to supervisor more diverse or complex functions. Fully directs work through others. Provides oversight, expertise, and guidance to less experienced individuals and begins to train and raise highly successful individual contributors into "Work Leaders".
  • Typically, will regularly interface with departmental staff and upper management, and frequently with outside customers.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training: 

Required: 

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, typically an engineering degree; or equivalent experience if allowed by law.
  • 10+ years’ experience in the oil and gas industry with a focus on offshore projects.
  • Supervisory and/or lead experience are typically required.

Preferred:

  • Relevant professional registration is highly preferred.
