Description
As a Staff Electrical Engineer, you will lead the design and development of the electrical architecture for our cutting-edge robotic platforms. This role includes not only designing complex PCBAs but also proposing the overall electrical architecture and selecting key electrical components to ensure optimal system performance. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, software, and systems engineers, to ensure seamless integration of electrical components. You will also ensure compliance with stringent medical standards, focusing on electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC/EMI) requirements. This is a unique opportunity to design a system from scratch for a medical robotic system using all your experience and state-of-the-art technologies. This is a full time on-site position and will require reporting to our offices located in Campbell, CA.

Responsibilities, Skills & Hands-On Experience
  • Electrical Architecture & Component Selection:
    • Propose and develop the electrical architecture for robotic systems, selecting critical components such as sensors, actuators, power systems, and communication interfaces.
  • PCBA Design & Development:
    • Lead the design, prototyping, and validation of complex PCBAs, ensuring high reliability, manufacturability, and integration with the overall system architecture.
  • Medical Standards Compliance:
    • Ensure designs adhere to medical device regulations (IEC 60601, ISO 13485), with a focus on electrical safety, current leakage, and insulation.
  • EMC/EMI Compliance:
    • Conduct testing and validation to ensure designs meet EMC/EMI standards and mitigate any potential interference.
  • System Integration:
    • Work closely with mechanical, software, and systems engineers to integrate electrical designs into the robotic systems, ensuring seamless functionality across all subsystems.
  • Risk Management:
    • Participate in risk assessments and design reviews, identifying and mitigating potential hazards to ensure the safety and reliability of the robotic system.
  • Prototyping & Testing:
    • Perform hands-on testing, troubleshooting, and optimization of the PCBAs and overall electrical systems through all phases of development.
  • Documentation:
    • Prepare detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, test protocols, and regulatory compliance reports.

Education & Work Experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience (8+ years) in electrical engineering, with a focus on developing electrical architectures, component selection, and PCBA design, preferably in medical devices or robotics.
  • Expertise in component selection for sensors, actuators, and power systems, ensuring performance and reliability within a medical-grade system.
  • Experience with EMC/EMI testing and implementing effective mitigation techniques.
  • Strong skills in analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit design.
  • Extensive knowledge of medical industry standards (IEC 60601, ISO 14971) and experience in risk management practices.
  • Proficiency in PCB design tools (e.g., Altium).
  • Proven track record of bringing products from concept to market in a regulated environment.
  • Track record translating user needs into engineering requirements and elegant design solutions.
  • Experience with cross-functional team collaboration, system integration, and bringing products to market.
  • Self-driven with the ability to excel in a high-energy team.
  • Hands-on engineering with the ability to work well in a start-up environment.
