Hatch is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer/Project Manager to join our electrical team in Amherst, NY.  As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be part of an integrated engineering team providing engineering services for large and small capital projects.


 


The Senior Electrical Engineer/Project Manager is responsible for preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports. The Senior Electrical Engineer is also responsible for assistance/participation in on-site commissioning.


 


Responsibilities include:


 



  • Develop a thorough understanding of the project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule

  • Prepare a list of engineering deliverables and time-based functions to facilitate the planning and control of the engineering budget

  • Maintain the project scope of work documentation and revisions as required during the design evolution

  • Review and execute the electrical and layout design criteria documents

  • Review electrical technical deliverables (specifications, datasheets, drawings, etc.)

  • Assist in the preparation and development of project specific procedures

  • Define the system requirements to achieve the project results and monitor effectiveness

  • Represent the electrical practice in project engineering coordination meetings

  • Participate in electrical design reviews

  • Ensure coordination, between the electrical team and other disciplines, of all activities being performed as the design evolves

  • Ensure that quality audits of engineering work are carried out in accordance with project procedures and the quality assurance plan

  • Promote and maintain the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of electrical engineering work

  • Ensure that all work designed, manufactured and supplied in the electrical engineering discipline complies with the relevant sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)

  • Participation in the compilation of the client Project Safety Management Plan with specific reference to switching, isolation and lockout procedures


 


Qualifications and Experience:


 



  • Bachelors of Science degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university

  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer

  • Minimum 10 + years of progressive experience within an EPCM, heavy industrial, power generation, and/or transmission & distribution industry preferred

  • Strong deliverable focus and ability to plan the work

  • A high degree of understanding of interdisciplinary dependencies related to the discipline

  • Strong understanding of procurement, contracting and commissioning methodologies

  • Knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards (NEC, NFPA and IEEE standards)

  • Knowledge on electrical calculations (short circuit, load flow, protective device coordination, arc flash and harmonics)

  • Knowledge on specification of large motor/generator sets and associated equipment, including high-voltage switchgear, transformers, starters and related protection systems

  • Knowledge on electrical design tools / software such as ETAP, SKM, or Easy Power. SPEL experience is a plus

  • Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment

  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to convey project technical information to project managers, clients and peers

  • Must demonstrate organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task, prioritize, take direction, and provide direction to others ensuring the quality of deliverables

  • Strong computer knowledge is required

  • Excellent safety awareness
