Senior Electrical Engineer

Onsite Daily: 5629 Copley Drive, San Diego CA (Occasional remote work may be possible as approved by the manager.  RELOCATION is possible for the successful candidate.)

Firestorm as a company grew out of the simple question: how does a US ally country with a respectively low defense budget deter an aggressor state entity with a vastly larger war chest? We’re building the very answer to that question, something we call “democratized deterrence.” Firestorm is a VC-backed, defense-meets-Silicon Valley technology company developing mission-adaptable aerial vehicles to put the power back into the hands of the operator. We aim to upend the current defense procurement cost paradigm by bringing world-class capabilities to bear at meaningfully lower costs.

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with a passion for innovation to join our fast-growing team. You will be responsible for supporting, designing, and developing a broad array of electronic components and circuits used in the development of our modular UAV systems.

What You Will Do:

  • Conduct PCB/A design including collecting requirements, schematic design, component selection, supervision or completion of layout, bring-up, test, debug, and integration with the system.
  • Shape, support, and design electrical systems and subsystems for new products and components.
  • Design and prototype cable assembly and wire harness systems, ideally from prototype stage through mass production.
  • Manage day-to-day relationships with electrical engineering-related suppliers.
  • Document new test procedures and report test plan results effectively.
  • Read and interpret designs/schematics and troubleshoot circuit problems.
  • Collaborate within a fast-paced environment on a dynamic team to drive project progress.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field; Master's preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Well versed in conducting PCB/A design including collecting requirements, schematic design, component selection, supervision or completion of layout, bring-up, test, debug, and integration with the system.
  • 4+ years of experience in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Proficient in schematic capture of electrical circuit designs (Altium preferred).
  • Experience with RF systems and analog designs.
  • Solid understanding of high voltage DC power systems.
  • Familiarity with power architecture and high-speed digital design.
  • Ability to read and interpret designs/schematics.
  • Hands-on experience working with battery-powered products.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Experience working with suppliers and managing relations.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Proficient with Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Slides, etc.).
  • Background in aerospace is a plus.
  • “US Person” status required (US Citizen, US permanent resident).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with advanced battery management systems and energy harvesting technologies.
  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced startup environment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements and standards in the defense sector.
  • Familiarity with reliability testing and validation methodologies.
