Senior Electrical Engineer for Systems Engineering & DICE (Direct Imaging Center of Excellence)


 


About the role:


We are looking for a seasoned Electrical Engineer to join our R&D Endoscopy division at Boston Scientific. The Senior Electrical Engineer will be working on complex product development programs focusing on developing new electrical systems and manufacturing/test equipment as well as developing firmware and low-level software used in the development and production of medical devices. Independently or as a member of a team, this person directs, develops, monitors and executes specifications, plans, and builds of manufacturing and test equipment. The Senior Electrical Engineer is a subject matter expert in the field.


 


Your responsibilities will include:



  • Designs electrical systems and specifies electrical components; Creates electrical/firmware/software designs utilizing the departments’ standard development tools and procedures.

  • Run major circuit board development projects from concept to manufacturing.

  • Leads or participates on project teams to develop clear specifications, evaluates feasibility of concepts, and provides formal estimates for electrical/software designs.

  • Prepares standard reports/documentation to communicate status and results.

  • Leads project teams that include Designers, Engineers and Technicians in the design, assembly, and debug of equipment

  • Completes FDA QSR equipment requirements by assisting in the creation of specifications and qualifications to ensure that medical devices are safe and effective for use in clinical settings.

  • Lead troubleshooting of root cause and determine any field or manufacturing issues.

  • Design test fixtures with automation to support high-volume mass production.

  • Play a lead role in system and sub-system design and collaborate with engineering teams to achieve project goals.

  • Collaborate as part of a multi-disciplined product development team

  • Manage third party designers, suppliers to deliver high quality engineering solutions at an accelerated pace

  • Provides training as required to ensure that the controls systems can be operated effectively.

  • Provides leadership role on championing functional best practices.

  • Influences and defines functional, departmental, and divisional procedures through involvement with cross-functional engineering initiatives.

  • Coordinates, monitors, and documents project designs, estimates, and costs.

  • Complete project deliverables and monitor project schedule and scope changes to assure team can meet delivery requirements.


 


 


Required qualifications:



  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Physics, MS or PhD is preferred.

  • 6+ years of engineering work experience (medical device field preferred)

  • High-level knowledge of medical technologies including devices, diagnostics, and imaging

  • Broad exposure to medical devices and applications

  • Practical understanding of IEC 60601 standards


 


Preferred qualifications:



  • Design of analog and digital electronics including PCB design

  • Working knowledge of image/video processing; design and validate high-performance image/video processing algorithm using Matlab/Simulink/Python.

  • Working knowledge of optical systems (illumination and imaging)

  • Electronic troubleshooting, including use of standard measurement equipment (multi-meters, oscilloscopes)

  • Electronic prototyping

  • Software/Programming: MATLAB, Simulink, C++, PADs, Altium Designer, OrCad, Verilog HDL/VHDL, LabVIEW, Multisim, Intel-Quartus, SolidWorks, Microsoft Office Suite

  • Implement computer vision algorithm for real-time video processing on embedded Intel/Xilinx FPGA SoC platform.

  • Define hardware, firmware and software architecture of complex embedded FPGA/MCU SoC system

  • Develop and execute verification and validation test protocols.
