Our Design Studio team, in our Chicago office, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer. This role will support the engineering of systems for a variety of projects while working closely with clients, client reps, architects, and MEP engineers in creating designs for all kinds of spaces.

Most duties will be performed in an office environment. dbHMS currently operates with both hybrid and remote-only work policies. The remainder of the duties will be performed in a combination of an office environment and construction/field environment which will involve trips to project sites. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, and frequently is required to walk. The work typically requires the use of hands to type, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand and perform work in the field. The typical week consists of five, eight-hour shifts.
When in the field the employee must be able to climb stairs and endure typical construction site conditions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Occasional overnight travel may be required depending on the employee’s home location. Frequent local field visits in the office metro area will be necessary. A valid and clean driver's license is required.

Position Overview
At dbHMS, experienced Senior Electrical Engineers lead and supervise the work of junior engineers, interface with project managers, clients, and other design consultants. Senior Electrical Engineers provide technical guidance to our clients across all aspects of electrical system design including building electrical service and distribution, lighting systems and controls, on-site generation, and nanogrid/microgrid development.
Essential Job Functions
- Lead design efforts for the analysis of electrical systems, utilizing engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements
- Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively; Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication
- Work as part of a project team to support the execution of consulting projects; Lead efforts in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives
- Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions; Collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions
- Provide in-process design reviews of electrical system design, calculations, and specifications
- Contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
- Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phase
- Apply advanced knowledge of building codes and standards
- Provide technical guidance and participate in training of junior engineers
Requirements
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering program
- 8 - 15 years total experience, 5 years minimum in the building design consulting industry
- Ability to operate or supervise the development of construction documents in Revit™ BIM software
- P.E license
- Strong technical and analytical skills including knowledge of principles relating to circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems design for buildings
- Proficient with industry standard engineering software and tools including power system analysis and design software such as SKM/PTW, Easy Power, or other; and energy compliance software such as ComCheck
- Proficient with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu
- Proficient with the use of reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and FGI
- Knowledge of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS, BIM software, and CTC Revit Add-In Tools
- Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Specialty certifications in the design of electrical systems such as LEED, RED, etc.
- Member of IEEE and/or other industry organizations
