You will work with a motivated product development and manufacturing team to develop energy products used all over the world, from California to Nigeria. As a Power Electronics Engineer, your work will focus on efficient, cost-effective ways to transfer energy between the grid, user devices, and lithium batteries.
You Will:
- Work with hardware: Review and inspect PCBAs in their native EDA software. Use the BioLite EE lab for basic rework and preparing test leads / adapters. Apply electrical engineering fundamentals (power, RLCs, switching). Use bench equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, rack mount supplies and loads) for test and development
- Develop firmware: Implement control systems and safety logic for high-speed microcontrollers controlling power converters. Debug and test your own designs. Work with version control tools in a collaborative setting.
- Be a team player: Assume responsibility for program-level goals. Propose strategies and solutions to diverse problems. Share risks, progress updates, and final results with the team. Work with a mindful and resilient attitude. Embody team values. Coordinate across the Brooklyn and Milwaukee development teams.
- Travel: to Brooklyn or Milwaukee no more than once per quarter, and to China or Africa to support builds or field trials approximately once per year.
You Have:
- At least 5+ years' experience doing component selection, schematic capture, and layout for power converters, with at least some experience in bidirectional AC-DC and DC-DC power conversion.
- At least 2+ years' experience writing and validating firmware for power conversion (H-bridge control, control signal management, and safety interlocks).
- Familiarity with modeling, specification, and evaluation of wound magnetic components such as transformers, chokes, and large inductors.
- Proficiency with an ECAD platform such as KiCad or Altium.
- Proficiency with microcontroller platforms optimized for real-time power conversion, such as C2000 or STM32G4.
- Basic soldering and prototyping skills allowing instrumentation and experimentation.
- Skills that will improve the strength of your application:
- Proficiency with Python and test automation.
- Familiarity with lithium battery systems.
- Knowledge of advanced PCBA skills such as hot air rework and blue wiring.
