What the position entails?
- Perform concept and detail design of ship electrical and control systems.
- Perform equipment and installation specifications.
- Perform testing and commissioning procedures.
- Prepare documents to Classification Societies and respond to their queries.
- Prepare bids from a technical perspective.
- Prepare supplier documents and comment.
- Support engineers and designers including training, mentoring and assigning tasks.
- Perform design checks and reviews to meet quality control and assurance requirements.
- In addition to performing discrete technical tasks within larger projects, employee may perform the role of Project Manager or Second In Command to a Project Manager, on smaller projects.
- Liaise with clients and build trusting relationships.
- Prepare and present reports to clients in face-to-face meetings.
- Provide technical support to business development and sales efforts.
- Assist with technical proposal preparation.
- Willingness to lead functional groups within company (i.e. technical groups, quality, etc.)
- Be cognizant of certain aspects of the management of a project, including, but not limited to, the following: establishing realistic working budgets, deliverable deadlines, budget tracking & analysis, prioritize and coordinate project schedules.
- Willingness to mentor and coach staff at lower position levels.
- Participates in team working environment, both intra-office and inter-office.

What you will need to be successful?
- Will hold a minimum qualification of a recognized Bachelor’s degree or equivalent engineering degree in a related field.
- Will typically have five to ten years’ post-graduation experience in industry.
- Has a good working knowledge of primary computer software programs necessary to complete Position Objectives (i.e. MS Office products, AutoCAD, etc.)
- Overall competency would be considered Applied, Working, or Developed in their discipline.
- Professional Engineer Designation / Eligibility to obtain Professional Engineer Designation is required.
- Communicates clearly and can complete work within budget and deadlines.
- Advanced report writing skills, including technical papers and conference presentations.
- Developed knowledge and understanding of Classification Society Rules and Flag State Regulations.
- Experienced with electrical and control systems on ships including generators, power distribution, switchboards, breakers, motor controls, variable speed drives, passive and active harmonic filters, EMC management, fire protection, public address, lighting, cable management, data networks.
- Experienced with equipment FAT, FMEA, audits, ship commissioning and start-up.
- Fluent in written and verbal English with excellent communication and technical writing skills
- Experienced in physical layout design of equipment, tray, lighting, instruments, fire protection, controls.
- Experienced in design of cable block, wiring and termination diagrams, cable schedules, motor and control schematics, electrical drive systems, panel layout and schedules.
- Working knowledge of Classification Society, IMO, SOLAS rules and regulations, international electrical standards, equipment survivability conditions.
- Experienced with integration of ship-specific equipment such as IPMS, IAS, SCMS, PMS, electric propulsion and electrical generation systems, battery storage hybrid systems.
- Experience in proposal writing and development is preferred.
Competitive Salary Range: CA $94,000 - 105,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications, as outlined in the job description/posting.
