RESPONSABILITIES
The selected candidate will cover a wide range of project scopes from rehabilitation of existing systems to new generating stations.
As a member of the Instrumentation & Gates engineering team, the candidate’s main responsibilities will be as follows:
• Review project technical specification, identify relevant and applicable sections, select and prepare equipment and component specifications as required for instrumentation, control and protection system design and panel fabrication;
• Prepare key engineering documents such as schematics and drawings required for the assembly and installation of instrumentation and control panels, marshalling cabinets and junction boxes, instrument lists, cable lists, parts bills and bill of material (BOM) in relation to project technical specifications and applicable codes;
• Prepare technical specifications and support the purchasing process by participating in the selection, negotiations and technical discussions with suppliers and sub-contractors;
• Prepare and document test procedures and system validations and participate in factory and site acceptance tests;
• Review and apply his/her engineer’s seal to technical documentation produced under his/her supervision;
• Coordinate with the mechanical engineering teams for generator, turbine, piping and water gate systems and the customer for the integration of instruments with their applicable equipment, Define cable pathways including embedded conduits and blockouts in walls;
• Support the installation and commissioning of hydro-electric generators and related electrical equipment at work site from the engineering office; (travel to site is discussed below);
• Provide technical support to the sales team in preparing technical documentation and drawings for bids;
• Participate in program initiatives aimed at reducing direct and indirect design costs and process streamlining to improve efficiency.
Candidate profile
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering;
• Must have an engineering permit in any Canadian professional engineering association;
• Minimum of five (5) years experience in the design of instrumentation and control systems;
• Experience in water gates and turbine wicket gate hydraulics (asset);
• Experience in turbine-generator instrumentation or similar experience (asset);
• Experience in electrical power generation – hydro or other (asset);
• Knowledge of hydraulic power systems, water gates and turbine wicket gate hydraulics (asset);
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD (must) and AutoCAD Electrical (asset);
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (ex. Excel, Word, Project, etc.);
• Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects and meet project and deliverable schedules;
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English and French (required) ;
• Proven ability analyzing and solving technical problems, designing practical and robust solutions;
• Willing and able to occasionally travel and participate in field work, mainly across Canada, for the support of installation and commissioning work following the engineering design phases of assigned projects and for periods typically estimated at a couple of days to couple of consecutive weeks and one (1) to a couple of occurrences per year.
