Position Summary

The Washington University Danforth Utilities Operations group is responsible for the campus wide infrastructure systems, including electrical distribution, heating plants and distribution, chiller plants and distribution, water distribution, sewers, and associated systems. The primary purpose of the position is to serve as a staff Electrical Engineer for the Utility Operations Department alongside two existing Senior Electrical Engineers with 50+ years of combined experience at the University. The employee will generally serve as an electrical engineering technical resource, provide technical oversight to ensure a safe, reliable and efficient operation, and collaborate with stakeholders throughout the campus on new construction, renovation, and electrical distribution projects.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee operation and maintenance of the campus electrical utility systems serving central plants and buildings.
  • Assist in developing and implementing metering and energy reduction initiatives, as part of the campus energy/carbon reduction goals.
  • Serve as an electrical technical resource to the Power Plant and Utility zone operations.
  • Assist in developing and implementing electrical utility system expansions and capacity increases in conjunction with building development program.
  • Assist in developing and implementing mechanical utility system replacement plan to phase out aged, unreliable and inefficient systems.
  • Be available for occasional after-hours utility system planned outages, emergencies, and technical assistance to Power Plant and Utility Zone Managers.

  • This position has the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule of two days remote, three days onsite.
  • Work is generally performed in an office environment and in an open space among other employees.
  • Work will also be performed in the field (equipment rooms, utility tunnels, outside, etc).
  • Occasional afterhours availability required to assist in unscheduled utility emergencies, etc

Salary Range

$75,200.00 - $128,800.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
