Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Reports To: Sr Director, New Product Engineering
Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Electrical Engineer to join our team in designing, developing, and enhancing the electrical systems of our refuse trucks. This role is integral to ensuring the safety, efficiency, and reliability of our products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to innovate and implement electrical solutions that meet industry standards and customer needs.
Key Responsibilities
Design and Development:
- Develop electrical system designs, schematics, and layouts for refuse trucks.
- Specify components, including wiring, controllers, sensors, and actuators.
- Collaborate with mechanical and control engineers to integrate electrical systems seamlessly into truck designs.
Testing and Validation:
- Conduct tests on prototypes to ensure electrical systems meet performance, safety, and quality standards.
- Prototype wiring harnesses and then optimize them for manufacturability and maintainability
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues during production and field testing.
Compliance and Standards:
- Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards and regulations, including SAE, NFPA, and DOT requirements.
- Document technical specifications and maintain records of design iterations.
Project Collaboration:
- Work with manufacturing teams to support the production process and resolve design-related issues.
- Partner with procurement to identify and source cost-effective, high-quality components.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for innovation and cost optimization in electrical systems.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in electrical engineering and refuse truck manufacturing.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive, heavy equipment, or refuse truck harness design.
- Demonstratable experience with Arcadia harness design including database management.
- Demonstratable experience with harness design from concept through prototype evaluation and production release.
- Demonstratable experience creating electrical schematics.
- Proficiency in electrical design tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar.
- Experience with J1939 CAN bus systems, controllers, and electrical harness design is preferred.
Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacture principles.
Work Environment
- Office and manufacturing floor settings, with occasional visits to customer sites or test facilities.
- Prototype shop for installation and evaluation of new harness designs.
- May involve working in outdoor environments for testing purposes.
