Job Summary:

The Site DCS/PLC Systems Engineer is responsible for implementation of site wide initiatives.  This role is critical to the success of the alarm management process, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and other control system related activities for the Indorama Lake Charles facility.  This position will provide leadership and innovation to ensure that these initiatives are consistently implemented on all DCS and PLC systems (ABB Symphony Plus, Triconex, Allen Bradley/ABB PLC’s).  Communication and teamwork with various levels of the organization, including process control engineers, is necessary to ensure targets are met and all of these initiatives and activities are properly managed.





Job Responsibilities:


  • DCS and PLC System Architecture and Hardware

    • Responsible to maintain & troubleshoot the system hardware.

    • Responsible for Spares Management for site wide systems.

    • Improve system Reliability and Integrity.

    • Update system hardware and software from time to time to ensure maintainability and reliability.

    • Develop and implement facility control and automation solutions.

    • Responsible for system architecture and automation network drawings.

    • Responsible for System Cyber Security.

    • Responsible for network management.

    • Responsible for identifying and developing conceptual scopes for improvements in plant process control systems.

    • Responsible to act as a project team member as required.




 


  • SIS and Other PSM Activities

    • Good knowledge of process hazards and associated safeguards, i.e. process control, safety instrumented functions, alarms and operator response.

    • Awareness of importance of instrumented systems used as Independent Protection Layers (IPLs).

    • Participates in the Process Safety Engineering Team to effectively manage the Facility’s SIS safety life cycle phases.

    • Develop DCS Scope documents as necessary for instrumented IPLs.

    • Perform and oversee the completion of IPL Verifications as required.




 


  • Alarm Management

    • Be a part of alarm management process and team at the site.

    • Assist Process Control Engineers and Manufacturing Information System personnel with implementation.

    • Proficiency in alarm management standards, ISA 18.2 & EEMUA 191, with the ability to apply them in petrochemical applications.



  • Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis and an ability to work extra hours if needed.  If applicable, ability to work overtime may be needed to ensure required staffing capacity to meet daily production objectives.

  • Work collaboratively with team members with different backgrounds and perspectives.

  • Assists other employees in accomplishments of Indorama company goals.  Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

  • Participates in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.  Participates in and completes company-required training programs.




Job Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Engineering AND 5+ years of operations/process control experience in the petrochemical or refining industry; OR 10+ years of experience in Process Control Engineering.

  • MUST HAVE OR BE ABLE TO OBTAIN a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

  • Industrial control system DCS and PLC configuration experience preferred.

  • Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM).

  • Experience with SIS and Other PSM activities.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of an organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

  • Strong engineering, technology and business acumen to bring value to business team.

  • Ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop engineering solutions.

  • ABB Symphony Plus, Allen Bradley, ABB and Triconex PLC experience desired.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft programs
