Position Overview: We are seeking an Electrical Engineer with experience working with controls to join our engineering team! The role of the Electrical Engineer (Controls) is to lead the design, development and maintenance of new and existing electrical control systems used in industrial and scientific applications.  Research and develop practical solutions that meet customer needs.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as project leader and integral part of specific development or current product maintenance, update projects following product realization process and utilize concurrent engineering principles.
  • Develop hardware and software for electrical monitoring and control systems using PLCs and microcontrollers, meeting regulatory standards.
  • Work with Purchasing to source, evaluate, and specify manufactures and vendors for purchased electrical/electronic components parts.
  • Work with engineering teams to update CAD drawings and wiring diagrams of embedded systems, electrical monitoring and control system cabinets.
  • Provide Bill of Material maintenance for specific projects using ERP system.
  • Consult with internal and external customers, sales and marketing, and manufacturing to formulate product requirements and specifications applying knowledge of customers, products and services to anticipate customer problems and needs. In conjunction with product management document requirements as verifiable deliverables for product development.
  • Research and develop practical solutions and products for our customer. Address increasingly complex technical problems and draw upon experience, analytical skills, and creative thinking, to develop solutions.
  • Work with test team and technical writing team to aid in the creation of test documentation and user documentation.
  • Work with production teams to aid in the creation and improvement of production documentation and production tools.
  • Oversee and perform Research and Development tests with engineering test department personnel.
  • Work with field service and customer service teams to provide them troubleshooting and diagnostic tools.
  • Stay current in new developments in the industry.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of company product development processes.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have:

  • Knowledge of and experience with solving technical problems and draw upon experience, analytical skills, and creative thinking, to develop solutions.
  • Knowledge of or experience with regulatory or quality compliance standards / processes GLP, FDA 21 CFR part 11, ETL and ISO (example: GAMP, CMM, Six Sigma).
  • Knowledge of developing control systems (either microcontroller and firmware or PLC with ladders).
  • Knowledge of motor design and power delivery (three phase, motor starters, etc).
  • Knowledge and understanding of Electrical Engineering principals.
  • Knowledge of schematic capture and PCB layout tools.
  • Knowledge of EMC, ESD and environmental testing standards.
  • Knowledge of electronic test equipment including VOM, Oscilloscope and hand tools.
  • In-depth industry knowledge and understanding of customer needs and requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret bid plans, blueprints, schematics and facility drawings.
  • Ability to present an idea to an individual and to a group.
  • Ability to translate technical product knowledge to both technical and non-technical customers.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering for Electrical Design related curriculum or Associates Degree or 5 years equivalent experience and a minimum of 3 years practical electrical design experience.
