In this role, you will lead electrical engineering efforts within our Building Services Team, working on a wide range of commercial projects. You’ll collaborate with mechanical, structural, and civil disciplines to develop full-service engineering designs, whether as a standalone electrical/technology group or as part of a MEPT (mechanical-electrical-plumbing-technology) team. Your leadership will directly contribute to the success of our firm by ensuring high-quality electrical designs, managing client relationships, and mentoring junior engineers.

Goals & Responsibilities 

This position includes, but is not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Serve as the local Electrical Group Lead, reporting to the Electrical Discipline Lead in Iowa City, IA.
  • Oversee electrical and technology system designs, including power distribution, lighting, fire detection, access control, and security.
  • Manage electrical design projects, ensuring quality control, adherence to timelines, and budget alignment.
  • Develop construction documents, specifications, and reports using Autodesk Revit, Bluebeam Revu, and commercial electrical design software (ETAP/SKM).
  • Lead BIM model integration and cross-discipline collaboration with mechanical, structural, and civil teams.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to junior engineers and design staff.
  • Conduct site visits, walkdowns, and inspections for existing and new building projects.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, and suppliers to ensure project success.
  • Engage in marketing and business development efforts to support team growth.
  • Support construction administration processes, including RFI responses and submittal reviews.

Qualifications & Skills 

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following education, experience, and abilities: 

Required Qualifications: 

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Wisconsin (or ability to obtain licensure within 60 days).
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Bluebeam Revu, and commercial electrical design software.
  • Strong experience in commercial electrical system design, including power, lighting, controls, and fire alarm systems.
  • Ability to manage and mentor a growing electrical team.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and client management abilities,

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering or similar field.
  • Licensure in multiple states.
  • CLD (Certified Lighting Designer) or CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) certification.
  • Experience in ComCheck, energy modeling, arc flash studies, and electrical coordination studies.
  • Familiarity with ETAP/SKM software and AutoCAD MEP.
