Alstom has an opening for a railway vehicle Electrical Engineer. The position is posted for our Naperville, IL site but may be eligible for any Alstom Services sites in the USA and Canada. In Alstom Services, our focus is to provide excellence in customer support and develop innovative mobility solutions.


 


What are my responsibilities?


The Electrical Engineer is responsible for supporting the site by delivering high performance engineering solutions within agreed timelines and broad company objectives.


 


In this role you are responsible for supporting the site to develop engineering solution on the existing vehicle, troubleshooting when vehicles are out of service, and support with testing. You will provide technical deliverables, and schedule updates on deliverables. You will report progress to the project team and the external customer.


 


You are able to read, analyze and design electrical schematics.  You should have the ability to use your knowledge of schemaitc and circuit analysis to troubleshoot out of service vehicles.  You should have the ability to download and analysis failures using PTE (portable test equipment).  You also will support with testing using PTE (portable test equipment) to analysis the data in real time.


 


You will help develop and integrate new systems on the existing vehicles.  You work with other parts of the orginazation to ensure all requirements and systems interfaces are adequately integrated. You will support the Mechanical Design team as necessary for cable routing and cable harness drawings development, including the definition of component part numbers for wiring, relays, circuit breakers, terminal boards, or connectors.You with conduct internal and external reviews with the customer. 


 


You support the site on design optimizations, risk mitigations and contribute to reliability, maintainability, and safety analysis to ensure a fully integrated, safe & compliant design. You liaise with other engineers and experts to ensure compliance with the appropriate Industry Standards.


 


Ultimately you with supporting the site for engineering activities to improve vehicle performance. You support the test team, but also provide troubleshooting support.


 


Your responsibilities include:



  • Accountable for supporting with definition any new systems added to the existing vehicle by providng electrical deliverables including schematics and installation for system installation

  • Support in definition of electrical interfaces with Train Control and/or System engineers to ensure electrical functions and systems are adequately integrated on any new system

  • Supporting the Mechanical Design team for cable routing and cable harness drawings development, as well as the Industrial Engineering team for manufacturing aspects on any new system

  • Support in ensuring the train electrical design is compliant with applicable standards for reliability, safety, maintainability and customer requirements

  • Support with troubleshooting when vehicles are out of service including PTE (portable test equipment) downloads and analysis

  • Support or run testing to validate new system


Travel of up to 10% may be required to support business meetings, Production Line support, or validation and test activities. 


 


What do I need to qualify for this job?


In this role, you are expected to support the site while building effective working relationships across a diverse engineering team, with the ultimate goal of delivering complex and innovative solutions that meet our customer needs.


 


The Electrical Engineer will supports the site to ensures adequate and effective solutions are defined and is accountable for overall electrical development.


 


You are versatile, very autonomous with hands-on experience and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.


 


Minimum Qualifications 



  • 5 years of experience in Electrical Engineering

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent combination of training


 


Preferred Qualifications 



  • Experience with general electrical design (schematics, harnesses, …)
