ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

 

Position Summary  

Minnkota Power Cooperative is seeking applicants for an Electrical Engineer at our headquarters in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the upkeep of NERC compliance records, maintenance of short circuit and arc flash databases, and design of protection and control systems.

The pay range for this position begins at $72,676 per year. Appropriate compensation will be determined based on a candidate's skills, education, and any previous relevant experience.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Project engineering
    • Prepare engineering designs
    • Evaluation of alternative designs
    • Selection of final design based on total cost of ownership
    • Develop budgets, schedules and justifications for projects
    • Manage engineering design consultants
    • Prepare project specifications for bidding purposes
  • Project management
    • Project budgeting
    • Acquisition of labor and material resources through the procurement process
    • Contractor management
    • Construction planning, coordination, inspection, and quality control
    • Startup and testing
    • Prepare and conduct project training for operations and maintenance
    • Complete the project records
    • Complete project closeout
    • Ensure coordination of efforts between different departments, organizations and vendors
  • Engineering analysis
    • Perform comprehensive studies within assigned areas of responsibility
    • Identify areas for improvement that reduce total cost of ownership
    • Evaluate and test equipment
    • Review systems to improve efficiency, reliability, availability and load factor
    • Review and evaluate designs/proposals of consulting firms

  • Operations and Maintenance Support
    • Provide day-to-day guidance to operations and maintenance personnel
    • Provide technical expertise in areas causing problems to operations
    • Provide assistance under emergency conditions for repair of vital equipment

Job Qualification Standards

Education and Training

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) required
  • EIT (Engineer-In-Training) certification required, PE (Professional Engineer) license preferred
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

Experience

  • Previous experience in an engineering role preferred
