Overview:


Veeco has an opening in Plainview, NY, for a skilled and experienced Electrical Engineer to participate in the delivery of NPD, ETO, and CIP work for compound semiconductor capital equipment. This role provides AC/DC design and troubleshooting, motion control and robotics, specification and incorporation of OEM power supplies and controllers, and many other areas of design.


 


Responsibilities: 



  • Support system engineering projects that have a substantial mix of electrical, mechanical, physics, algorithms, and software design, along with an understanding of the underlying system implications

  • Create engineering design specifications

  • Design or modify electrical/electronic engineering assemblies, layouts/schematics and/or detailed drawings/specifications of difficult scope

  • Identify problems and troubleshooting a variety of complex electrical issues with limited supervision

  • Define, coordinate, perform and generate engineering test reports

  • Perform engineering analysis of difficult scope

  • Generate electrical product specifications

  • Specify and review engineering documentation

  • Lead and/or execute engineering projects

  • Implement concepts for variety of complex product issues and electrical solutions

  • Coordinate and perform validation testing, providing feedback on new designs and ongoing engineering improvements

  • Conduct system qualification testing for reliability

  • Work with other Mechanical and Software Engineering groups in all phases of product development and testing

  • Provide system and subsystem integration support during the assembly and final testing of new product designs

  • Support Manufacturing and Field Service teams to ensure smooth product transitions

  • Debug and Diagnose board-related issues on systems. Assist Manufacturing, Field Service, and Technical Product Support with debugging and diagnosis of tool issues, including at the board level

  • Write technical documentation as required that meets the defined quality standards for Manufacturing and Field Service teams


 


Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of related experience or a Master’s degree and 3 years of experience is required. Direct commercial experience working with semiconductor capital equipment or in a similar technical field is a plus. Must be proficient in analog/digital circuit design process, including schematic design, layout, testing, and release.


 


 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 



  • Experience with electrical interface design

  • Capability to create, read, and troubleshoot electrical schematics

  • A critical thinker, always anticipating holistic system effects of localized design decisions, challenging design concepts and analyzing best alternatives

  • Ability to multi-task and work with a cross-functional team in a matrixed organization

  • Hands on experience with lab equipment, including logic analyzers and oscilloscopes

  • Experience with vacuum equipment and robotics preferred

  • CE, UL, TUV, and RoHS regulatory experience preferred

  • Experience in designing equipment used in a cleanroom environment a plus

  • Motion control and PLC experience a plus

  • Experience with electronics subsystem design, such as schematic capture, printed circuit board layout and board assembly prototyping a plus

  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Can anticipate and resolve roadblocks

  • Proficient in MS Office applications, including MS Project or similar

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, up 15%

The expected salary range for this position is $95,000 - 121,000 + bonus + benefits. When determining your pay, we will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
