SUMMARY:
From R&D standpoint, the Electrical Engineer is responsible for the project support of new product introductions, product enhancements and recommendations of new technology for current and future products. The Electrical Engineer also provides manufacturing support relating to electrical troubleshooting, electrical test fixtures, and managing obsolescence of major electro-mechanical components. The Electrical Engineer will interact with relevant testing agencies and must stay current in the latest standards and regulatory requirements related to the products.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Support projects identified via new product introduction, cost reduction, product enhancements and quality improvements.
- Create PC Board Assembly and complete electrical system designs, schematics, and prototypes for new products.
- Create verification and validation test plans and perform testing as required.
- Product Sustainment – maintain electrical schematics and Bills of Material using the ECR/ECN process.
- Research new technologies for use in new and existing product and to identify alternative options.
- Identify replacement parts for major obsolete (end-of-life) electrical components for Purchasing.
- Support Purchasing, Quality Control and Technical Service to review electrical component and PC Board Assembly issues.
- Stay educated in current regulatory and compliance requirements for use in the design and testing of products to ensure compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited university, or equivalent years of experience.
- Previous work experience in medical device design and development preferred, electrical systems or highly regulated industries.
- Advanced experience in and hands-on ability to trouble-shoot AC and DC electrical circuits.
- Skilled in building own prototypes and test fixtures.
- Knowledge of Infra-Red and RF systems.
- Knowledge of electro-mechanical systems.
- PC Board troubleshooting and design experience.
- Proficiency with Altium PC Board design software.
- Embedded Programming C, C++, C#, and/or Assembly preferred.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor preferred.
- Understanding of design for manufacturing (DFM).
- Proficiency with MS Office business software – Word, Excel, etc.
- Good mechanical aptitude and problem solving skills.
- Must be collaborative and willing to learn.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
