ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for the specifications and circuit design of the data acquisition system (DAS) for the Company’s CT and other medical device systems while working closely with a team of electrical, mechanical and software engineers, both on-site and remotely.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned
- •Define architecture for CT DAS systems, including selection and application of FPGA, microcontrollers, A/D converters, power circuits and solid state memory
- Design, qualify, and release to production new and/or enhanced hardware to implement defined architectures
- Design and maintain analog, digital and power circuits as required
- Develop FPGA code using Verilog (preferred) or VHDL as required
- Complete the design of PCBA, including schematic capture, device selection, oversee PCBA layout, and assembly documentation
- Complete PCBA design verification including bring-up, troubleshooting, debug, and integration
- Complete design documentation, including electrical schematics, Bills of Material, assembly instructions, and specification control drawings
- Develop test equipment for DAS testing
- Testing the x-ray source, including commissioning installations at suppliers
- Design test fixtures for detector evaluation and DAS functional verification
- Work with Operations to define PCBA and electronics test method selection and tooling development for production
- Complete documentation to specify manufacturing processes
- May design test fixtures for PCBA and electrical assembly testing during production
- Integrate computer hardware/software, motion control, data acquisition, and instrumentation components for design development
- Select and apply sensors, including photodiodes, radiation detectors, proximity, rotational encoders, and reflective and transmissive optical sensors
- Design and test for safety and EMC compliance with UL, FDA, CE, and FCC requirements
- Assess internal and external customer requirements for end user applications
- Translate requirements to specifications and the hardware design
- Work closely with technology partners to assess partner offerings relative to the implementation of DAS architecture
- Work closely with partners to qualify DAS and implement into production
- Regularly write timely and concise technical reports understandable by both technical and non-technical readers
- Work with suppliers and cross-functional development team to reduce time to market, product cost and procurement lead-time while meeting design objectives
- Provide sustaining engineering support for released products, including changes for improved manufacturability, reduced cost, increased reliability, and/or improved performance
- Assist in the preparation and incorporation of ECO's per PDM process
- Conduct design reviews and critique other engineers designs
- Regularly generate creative solutions to complex, multi-disciplinary problems
- Provide regular status reports, written and/or verbal, to cross-functional project team members
- Use digital communication interfaces such as CAN, RS-232, USB, and Ethernet to provide system control and diagnostics
- Work in a team environment that encourages respectfully receiving and giving constructive criticism
- Develop reliability test protocols to stress designs environmentally
- Analyze systematic fault modes and implement corrective action plans
- Work individually with minimal supervision and as part of team of engineers
- Required to wear dosimeter when in direct contact with radiation emitting devices
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- BS in Electrical Engineering required, Master’s preferred and 5 years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated successful electrical design background of CT Data Acquisition Systems and their components
- At least 5 years product design experience of moderately complex electronics, including analog and digital circuit design, schematic capture, logic design, and PCB layout validation
- Experience with FPGA development, Xilinx preferred, using Verilog (preferred) or VHDL programming languages
- Experience with electrical engineering CAD tools (schematic capture, simulation, layout)
- Experience in applying Controller Area Network (CAN) technology and similar digital communication interfaces
- Experience bringing designs from concept to production
- Experience with online document control systems required, Arena preferred
- Demonstrated track record of meeting cost, schedule and performance goals
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write design documents and test plans
- Experience with ISO, FDA and CMDR Awareness training preferred
COMPUTER & ANALYTICAL SKILLS
- Must be able to assemble facts from various areas, analyze data, and provide informed recommendations to management
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision, take charge of projects, and work effectively in a demanding, fast paced environment
- You must be excellent with technology, be able to present using a laptop computer, and be able demonstrate proficiency with MS Office package, including Excel, Word, and Powerpoint; as well as Outlook and Internet Explorer
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Occasionally lift and /or move up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time
- The noise level in the work environment is usually mild.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus
- Interaction with x-ray devices; for this reason strict safety and tracking programs are in place, requiring the utilization of dose monitoring equipment either full time or as necessitated by situation
