JOB DUTIES
 

  • The Adjunct Faculty will be expected to teach Fiber Optics to Electronics Engineering Technology majors. 
  • The Adjunct Faculty will introduce Fiber Optics as it pertains to the communications process. 
  • Teach on topics that include optics, the behavior of light in a fiber, and fiber optic systems. 
  • Provide students with the fundamentals to process connectorization of fiber, use of the special tools, and test equipment to evaluate fiber optic cable.
  
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Prepare class lectures, assignments and labs.
  • Perform instructor duties: take attendance, submit grades, etc.
  • Encourage student success by creating a supportive class culture.  
  • Administer student assessments and record results.
  • Provide student support outside of class time as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • None
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
 
Be available to teach Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
Classes and exercises held in a laboratory setting at the West Windsor Campus.
  
ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
 
Positions in this class typically require: ability to use a key board, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
 
Sedentary Work:  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 

  • Associates degree and at least five (5) years’ experience in the field of Fiber Optics.  
  • Must be available to teach on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the Spring 2024 semester.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
 

  • Teaching experience in Higher Education
  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Engineering Technology, Engineering or Physics.
  • FOA (The Fiber Optic Association, Inc.) CFOS/I Instructor certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
 
  • Understanding of the physics behind fiber optic transmission.
  • Familiarity with various types of fiber optic cable and the tools and instruments used to terminate, test, and evaluate fiber optic cable.
  • Familiarity with the processes and components involved in fiber optic system design, installation procedures and safety.
  • Interacting with others in a way that gives them confidence in one’s intentions and those of the organization.
  • Making customers and their needs a primary focus of one’s actions; developing and sustaining productive customer relationships
